The case fits like a sleeve with the bottom back 1/5th overlapping the gap you slide the kindle into. The viewing surface is glossy plastic, though does not detract from view wuality too much, epecially when assuming you'll likely be outside in sunshine.
The page forward/back is covered and has marking on the cover to show where to press, though after a couple of minutes you don't need this.
The on/off slider and headphone jack is completely covered. This does mean that the on/off slider is a little trickier to work than usual, though once you figure out the feel and position it is possible.
Overall, this is a reasonably priced cover that does a good job of protecting against splashes and sand incursion.
Hope this helps, Mike

Anyway, it is nice. The seems are all tucked so they're not really noticeable, and the fabric is comfortable to hold for long periods. This is not dunk-able. If someone tries to be funny and tosses it in a pool, they'll be buying you a new Kindle or be an acquaintance but never a friend.
The company had some spiel about saving Earth on the package. There was enough packaging to box a dozen of these things. Don't tell me about saving the earth w/ reduced this or that and follow-up w/ a slightly smaller box in the shipping box holding a PLASTIC bag w/ a fuzzy back to put my radioactive-toxic-battery-powered-until-the-nonreplaceable-battery-dies-plastic-encased-electronic device in. Although, of all the things to package w/ I am glad it was completely recyclable, biodegradable cardboard. Made from the only natural resource we (responsible humans) can actually replace as we use; wood.
I would recommend if you don't need a stand or plan on treating your belongings as if they had no worth.

I use this more than any of the cases I have for my Kindle. It closes with a very fine Velcro closure on the bottom which you have to undo to turn it on and off or to plug it into... Read morePublished on August 30, 2014 by MJReynolds32
I love it because I can take it to the beach and not worry about the sand blowing in and on my kindle. I would love to buy 2 or 3 more but can't find them anywhere. Read morePublished on December 8, 2013 by Carol E. Fuelling
This has been a great case, really love it. It did what I wanted it to do. Covered the front for protection from the dirtPublished on May 15, 2013 by Robert
Case is nice- sleek and practical. One of the raised areas for page-turning actually fell off (it is a sticky, rubbery material) so quality isn't as good as it could be.Published on April 15, 2013 by AdeleOT

I put this on my Kindle for when I'm reading in the tub. I don't have to worry about it getting wet, short of dropping it in the water. Read morePublished on January 8, 2013 by Jon M
