Able to easily paint 800 sq feet of outdoor brick wall with better coverage that with rollers (because of uneven surface). Used with heavy, exterior latex paint, undiluted and without spray additives. Was not fazed by mild wind, however there is a limit the breeze that that the spray fan will tolerate before 'breaking up'. Sprayed, covered and worked fabulous. However not without application flaws.
tips: 1) Keep your spray gun flat to the target, otherwise you throw a lot of paint mist into the air, and you get uneven coverage. You must keep cleaning off the spray tip as paint will 'drool' down the nozzle and it will be thrown at your target in solid 3-8mm 'drops': just wipe the nozzle area with a rag from time to time and you'll be fine.
2) Will not use every last drop in paint bucket or pail-be prepared with extra paint as when the suction strainer is exposed to air, the pump loses prime and you are done. About 1 quart unusable paint per gallon pail, or even more with 5 gallon pail. Just due to the sheer size of the suction screen. You can tilt the can to get the suction screen re-submerged but depending of the radius and height of the can/pail, there is still significant leftovers.
3) Even with heavy latex paint I found the minimum pressure setting worked best for the spray pattern. Easy to control spray cut off -if you're not too fussy- wide painters tape is your friend here!
4) Clean up, although not complicated was tedious. No direct water hose hookup translated into five, 5 gallon pails of fresh water before the machine is clean. Don't even think about storage without running light oil pump lubricant before storage. Make sure you store in heated area!
Bottom line whatever time you save with this is used up in a) the prep/masking ; and b) the clean up(the reason for 1 less star IMO).
On large jobs, intricate detail painting, or production jobs where you're painting 12 doors for example, this is the BOMB! Otherwise between the paint waste and prep----better to leave it to a brush and/or maybe a HVLP sprayer with a cup.
