Go with wood rings, go with these, they hit the value mark perfectly. They are laminated wood which I prefer over the plastic and metal rings. They came sanded down, so I'm not sure what the other reviews were talking about. They were neither too heavy nor too light and felt really balanced overall. The straps are the extra wide webbing which I prefer and come with little velcro straps next to the clinching mechanism (however those consistently broke after the first week. Our athletes, ranging in size and weight from 80lbs to 200+lbs use these rings for movements like ring rows, pull ups, muscle ups, ring dips, etc and the rings/rstraps have all held up very well and feel very safe. After months of use the rings have obtained a nice patina, as all our wooden gym equipment does, but they have never felt slippery or oily. A+ quality and value.
*** I am not a gymnast, so I'm not sure if they are "regulation", but from the point of view of a general physical fitness practicioner and gym owner, I think these are a great value and are well made. Don't bother experimenting with the other types of rings, you'll just end up with some useless stuff and a bunch of non-matching gear. Don't ask questions, just get these, trust me.
The setup is easy - and if there are any questions youtube has 50+ videos so that they are secure and the correct height for the exercise intended. Not complicated - after learning once it's a done deal. Easy, lightweight and sturdy. Don't worry about going wood with the rings - it is finely sanded and not rough on the hands.
Would recommend to anyone who is looking to build their own home gym.
Having used plastic rings during my Crossfit days, I'm so glad I bought wood rings. They're way more comfortable and easy on your hands, and they don't require chalk for our purposes. If you were going to spend a significant portion of your workout on them, maybe a little chalk would be a good idea, but they're naturally sweat resistant and grippy without tearing your hands up.
I use them without chalk and don't have trouble getting a good false grip for muscleups, etc. The thickness of the rings is also very comfortable. A thin ring can hurt a bit with dips and other exercises where your weight is above the rings.
I have them at a fixed height and the straps have not loosened at all with months of repeated use.
As for the product itself I couldn't be more happy to have great quality ring along with the great buckles and straps that are the perfect length. My biggest tips to anyone who buy these rings is to be careful that the buckles are NOT making contact with the wooden rings when you are hanging from them. I've made this mistakes a few times and have put small dents in the rings. No big deal though.
