The only crimpers to use when using heat shrink butt connectors - protect your insulation!

This is an excellent crimper for heat shrink butt connectors. I like this set because all of the crimping jaw surfaces are rounded for protection against puncturing the insulation on connectors. Full disclosure, I use these exclusively on my own heat shrink butt connectors, which I sell here on Amazon - Choice Marine 180pc Premium Heat Shrink Butt Connectors -- the ones I use on my boat for saltwater / marine applications. I value the way the integrity of the insulation is maintained and how the ratchet allows me to partially clamp down on the connector so I have a hand free to insert the wires. One thing to remember when using these - the only way they release is when you've ratcheted them down far enough!

I havent used these much yet, I bought them for a upcoming wiring project on my race car but so far Im loving them! I bought some shrink tube crimp connectors and had good luck testing these out with everything from 10-22 gauge wiring.

These are a big big upgrade from your standard crimpers that comes with wire cutters/strippers. I have done dozens of crimps now of varying sizes and have yet to have one fail, they are almost always nice and tight. The ones that aren't so tight I blame on the cheap flimsy terminals I've been using (stay away from those cheap 100 packs if you're working on an important application), worst case I would let's stay start with a crimp in the yellow terminal then go again in the tighter blue terminal to get a really solid seal

These didn't come with any instructions or tips so it took be awhile to get a good technique down. What I usually do is line up the terminal/barrel with the appropriate sized hole then crimp down about half way, then readjust my grip and finish it off, holding firmly for a second or two at the end. The ratcheting action on these is pretty helpful because it will hold the jaw in place allowing you to switch hands or readjust your grip.

Not giving it a perfect score due to lack of instructions and I find the quick release in the handle a little hard to engage sometimes. For the price point and how useful they are and considering that I'm not a professional installer I would definitely recommend these and purchase again.

I bought these crimpers on November 24th, 2016 and received them on November 26th. They came in a blister pack and placed in a small box wihtout packing material, none was needed, it's a tool. I have used it for crimping insulated electrical blade connectors and the barrel connectors from the small reds to the big yellows and they have made a solid crimp each and every time. It makes a double type of crimp that is much more solid than the single crimp from the scissor type crimpers. I have used them in automotive wiring and in household electrical wiring projects and love the one handed operation and the solid feel of the resulting connection.

The price was reasonable compared to other crimpers and the feel of the tool is solid making me believe it will last for years. These is no play in the working of the mechanism and it seems to have a high build quality. I am considering another purchase of this tool for my shop because I have to go to the work van to retrieve this one every time I need it at home.

I am happy with this tool and will not go back to the old way of crimping with a cheap single crimp scissor type crimper.

***UPDATE***
I purchased a second pair of this tool for use at home in my shop and it works just as well as the first pair. Will never again try crimping wire connectors without them.

Pros;

VERY solid crimping, I've dealt with cheap ones that no matter what just didn't crimp well
Replaceable jaws
Nice soft handles

Cons;
Can't really think of any yet, I will of course update if that ceases to be the case.

Of comparable crimpers found online for sale, these are the best bang for your buck! Spend a couple of extra dollars and avoid the hassle of working with cheap, unreliable, poorly performing offbeat or generic brands. You will be please to find the outstanding quality and performance from these crimpers. They operated properly the first time every time, making rock solid reliable crimps every time. The heat shrink style connectors are not damaged by these pliers. There is an adjustment (which compensates for over or undersized connectors and different insulation / heat shrink thicknesses). The adjustment requires the removal of a screw and is very stiff to change. That aside I would rather a stiff adjustment vs something that falls apart. These are a must if you work with heat shrink connectors. Though somewhat bulky for tight areas, they work great. The ratcheting design ensures the same crimp every time! Even if they may cost a dollar or two more, you, your coworkers, and customers will gain from these time saving pliers.

Great tool comparable to Ancor product

I owned a similar tool from Ancor (which was absconded by a fellow member of our racing team who has since moved out of the country). I used the Ancor product to completely rewire a boat and it was an excellent tool. I needed to do some electrical work on my present boat, and I bought the Titan 11477 Ratcheting Wire Crimper because it was quite a bit less expensive. I was worried that it would crimp as well as the Ancor, but it does an excellent job. I used insulated terminals, and the tool worked flawlessly on all crimps. I am very satisfied with this purchase (and I won't be loaning this tool because it will end up 'lost').

Do not buy these from harbor freight!!!

Purchased a cheap set of these from harbor freight, these work much better!!! The only way to crimp, these perform a double crimp, they make a much better connection
