Great audio quality. Not so great tuner.
on October 8, 2016
Quite sometime ago, I purchased two Tivoli Model One radios as gifts for my mother and my father-in-law, who both enjoy listening to the radio. The sound quality is truly excellent. The glaring deficiency is the tuner. The tuner seems to lack the selectivity necessary to differentiate between adjacent channels on the FM band in metropolitan areas with large numbers of radio stations broadcasting on closely spaced frequencies. The radios are difficult to tune to a desired station, and once tuned the tuner quickly drifts off station, as if the mixing oscillator is not stable. At $150, this is not the performance I had expected. My mother's radio is headed to Goodwill and my father-in-law's radio has been relegated to a shelf in the dining room. Perhaps other Tivoli radios with digital tuners have phase lock loops to address the problems we have encountered, and perform better than units using analog tuners. Bottom line, I failed to give my mother and father-in-law gifts they found enjoyable and that has been a profound disappointment.
