As the sisters travel to Plymouth, Nebraska they are excited to see their aunt and to meet a doctor that can possibly help Eliza become a bit more independent. I loved Dr. Jay Andrews immediately. He has a strong desire to help others . He will have his hands full with Laura hovering over her sister. Laura and Jay will have some things they need to overcome and I loved how they prayed and asked God to help them. It is a wonderful story of forgiveness, new beginnings and trusting God.
Eliza Evans is left paralyzed from the waist down from a tobogganing accident, she wants a better life and clings to hope that the good Doctor can help her. Laura feels responsible for what happened to her sister, sequestering her life to help care for her. Will she allow the Lord to heal both her spirit & heart?
This was a sweet story of healing, forgiving ourselves of past hurts, & love blossoming. I can see the bond of the sisters is very strong, even I fell in love with both of them! All three characters have many obstacles to overcome. I loved seeing their friendship develop as they worked together to help Eliza. Even she began to blossom as happiness returned to her heart! A wonderful story all around. I’d love to see Eliza’s story told in a future book and get to know her more. This is one that I soon won’t forget, a story of hope in times of difficulty.…. hope in the Lord of course!
This was one of my favorite book quotes. It sums up the theme perfectly: “Maybe, just maybe, God had brought them together to help them heal”

Laura Evans and her sister, Eliza—who is paralyzed—leave their home in Maine to move to Plymouth, Nebraska to take care of her Aunt Minnie Bell as well as her sister. Aunt Minnie said the doctor—Dr. Jay Andrews—would meet the stagecoach and bring them to her home. But where is the doctor? When the doctor does arrive, he is nothing like Laura expected.
Dr. Jay Andrews moved to Plymouth to “escape” after caring for the wounded during the Civil War. Even here, he finds himself with a young paralyzed patient—Eliza Evans. He plans to help her in anyway he can...that is if Laura will allow him to. They don't agree on the care to be given Eliza on many levels. Will they call a “truce” and work together to do what is best for Eliza or forever be at odds? And what of Eliza, what does she want?
This is a heartwarming, sweet story with characters facing the same struggles we often face; self-doubt, forgiveness—even of oneself, redemption, learning to trust again, a strong faith in God, romance and love. Aunt Minnie is a great character and soon became one of my favorites. I really enjoyed reading Laura and Jay's story.
Another beautifully sweet story, this was about hope and trust! This book also takes on disabilities and discusses war time amputees as well and injuries leading to paralysis!
The love story begins almost immediately and blossoms naturally! Laura learns to trust Dr. Jay with not only treating her disabled sister but also with her heart! A very tender story!!
FAVORITE QUOTES: "We both believe that if we try hard enough, somehow we can make up for the harm we see all around us."
"You don't need scores of suitors. You only need one...if he's the right one." (Little Women quoted)
