This book may help lead you toward a peaceful life. I read a page of it almost ever morning, along with One Day at a Time in Alanon, and Courage to Change. I also go to Alanon meetings regularly. I suggest that if you feel affected by another's drinking, GO and check out Alanon. Even if you feel like "Why should I go? I don't have a problem!" That's how I felt, GO ANYWAY. You can google Alanon, and find a meeting in your area. There are also 800 numbers. There are NO dues or fees for membership (we are self supporting through our own voluntary contributions), and it is an anonymous program. We have a saying at meetings, "What you hear here, who you see here, when you leave here, let it stay here." Anonymity is sacred to members, so please don't let fear of "being recognized" scare you away. Alanon has helped to save my life. I went because I was at my wit's end: angry, frustrated, sad. Now, I have a life that I treasure. Take heart, for you can, too.

The book is like a daily meditation, however, it allows you to search the index for a topic of need. It's another helpful tool and is small enough to carry along with you. The Twelve Steps are listed in the back for quick reference.

When you work in recovery, it's nice to have something to consider each day. This has the year broken down, day at a time. Something short to read and consider for the day. It goes along with the al-anon twelve steps perfectly and is just one more helpful aid when you are in recovery and learning. Get this book!

I am a long-time Alanon member and also an adult child of an alcoholic. This speaks especially to the adult child, but has many many inspirational pages for anyone who has dealt with the drama of addiction. Frankly I think everyone could benefit from Alanon literature -- regardless of whether you know anyone addicted to drugs or alcohol. Alanon is all about learning to be the best person you can be and learning to accept others as they are.

Very helpful book for those who had an alcoholic influence on their childhood. My favorite of all the Al-Anon books so far!

This daily reader is intended for adult children of alcoholics, and it is tremendously helpful and encouraging, The shared experiences range from abusive homes to those, like myself, who didn't even realize they had an alcoholic parent. Even though most of the selections contain reference to gender and specific parent-child relationships, many of them do not. I think that anyone affected by the family disease of alcoholism can relate to the meditations and and selected quotations for each day. Like it says at the beginning, the readings were selected because of what was said, not who said it. You can always take what you like, and leave the rest. However, I have found tremendous strength and hope. The index provides different situations and feelings you may encounter with corresponding page numbers, so there is no need to read only today's entry.

These pages, 365 daily meditations, were each written by individual participants from around the world in the Al Anon program. Carefully written and well-edited. Very well done.
