Authors (and preachers) are often accused of answering questions nobody's asking. Not so with this book! Drawing from his experience as a teacher, Dave O'Brien tackles 112 questions raised in his Old Testament history classes at St. Paul Bible College and from students in Bible classes at Bethany Fellowship. Along the way he provides 47 principles of interpretation that are helpful for any pastor, teacher, or Bible student. I highly recommend this resource!

I work in multiple cultures and have found that O'Brien has addressed the common questions people have in a way that us "everyday Joes" can understand. This book is a must if you want to help people understand the scriptures.

Maybe not a bad book, but it was not at all what I thought it would be. I was looking for a book that contained the most frequently cited "Biblical contradictions" and gave the factual proof to disprove the contradiction. I have not read through the entire book page by page but have read several of the "questions" and the answers. From the description of the book I expected a book to reference specific instances where the Bible, on first glance, appears to contradict itself. For example, when the timeline of an event does not appear to match or appears not to total up correctly. I have read different articles and studies that show/prove how the Bible does not contradict itself and, as on the timeline example, how cultural norms in Biblical times do not match how we would count that timeframe now or even how different groups counted it then. I have trouble remembering exactly how some of those go, example: in certain cultures a king's first year of reign was not counted, the counting did not start until his first full year as king, others counted that first partial year. Therefore, when counting timelines of an event, if you do not know this, two separate accounts/passages may appear to contradict each other especially if several different kings are involved in the timeline. In the book some of the questions are just one person's belief or best guess as to what something means. It does give "food for thought" in some areas but all-in-all it was just not what I was looking for or expected it to be. I may like it better once I get over the disappointment that it was not what I wanted - or it may just sit on a bookshelf with other books that I rarely use.
