This is the first dairy free sour cream I’ve tried, but I think it’s great! There is a mild aftertaste of what I can only liken to play doh, but it’s barely noticeable, and once I mixed it with my taco salad I didn’t notice it at all. I will continue to buy this since my husband decided to ruin a good thing and develop a dairy intolerance.
I'm thrilled. I haven't had any dairy in 5 months. I'm plant based now,but I missed the sour cream on my meatless mexican dishes. This stuff is BETTER than the watery dairy stuff I had before. It's not that sour, you can add some lemon juice if you need to. The other person in my home still eats dairy but tasted this and threw her dairy sour cream out. Glad I bought two.
I have an ambivalent opinion about this stuff. Hear me out...
On it's own, right out of the tub, I find the flavor to be nothing short of revolting, and off-putting.
To my pallet, it tastes EXACTLY like the Play-Doh™ clay i use to play with as a child. How and why Tofutti's R&D department signed off in it's final flavor profile...it's a genuine head scratcher to me!!??
In spite of that, once i add this prioduct into a sauce, It's completely DELECTABLE!!
The abhorrent flavor disappears, and it becomes a rich, smooth, creamy addition to my recipes. It is PERFECT as thick, creamy Alfredo pasta sauce, and completely makes the warm, Serrano green chile dip i concoct an irresistible treat!!
I plan to try making a sweet, lemon cream pie filling with this, as well as a caramel creme/pecan pie pie filling. I feel that it would lend itself over nicely to those two recipe ideas perfectly.
If i were someone who loved dairy sour cream, and was transitioning away from dairy products, and tried this PB/V sour cream out of the tub, it would most likely give me zero faith in a delicious dairy free alternative.
However when added to a recipe that has other strong flavors, it completely works, it's so ODD, hence my 3 star rating.
However, i will still purchase it. I literally love/hate this stuff!
I was concerned about the flavor because I’m new to my dairy free journey and I would rather do without than to eat something gross. This is very creamy and delicious. To me, regular sour cream has a “sour” taste to it and this does not have a sour taste. It stirs well and it’s great on baked potatoes and tacos.
I use this for burritos and enchiladas. I spread it on tostitos, then put down beans, maybe leftover organic brown rice, some organic salsa, greens, fried onions, peppers and roll it all up. Sometimes cheese but we’re trying to be healthier these days. Then I use Trader Joe’s (ordered on Amazon Prime for delivery ) enchilada sauce to pour over rolled up burritos and bake at 350° for maybe 30 min. Easy peasy. Oh, and always add one fresh ingredient (I like cilantro). That makes a difference.
This is so creamy! I am picky and I finally found something I can live with to give up sour cream! I love sour cream and put it on a lot of different things. I have struggled to be vegan because I miss sour cream. This is the only one that makes the cut for me! I love it and am so happy and they have cream cheese as well! They got the texture right and both are so creamy! So I can have bagels again Yeah!!!!
This is really good. It's thicker than dairy sour cream but tastes so much better than other dairy free options available. Even dairy eaters think it's better than "real" sour cream. I don't think it has a "play-doh" taste like other reviews have said.
