Take Back New York
Welcome to a next-gen experience in a persistent and dynamic open world environment that is built from the ground up for co-op and where exploration and player progression are essential. Teaming up with other Division agents, your mission is to restore order, investigate the source of the virus, and take back New York.
Seamless Multiplayer: The Dark Zone
Enter the Dark Zone, a walled-off quarantine zone in the middle of Manhattan where the most valuable loot was left behind when the military evacuated. It’s also the most dangerous area in the game, where fear, betrayal, and tension are high. Team up with other players to take down your enemies and extract legendary loot via helicopter. It’s your choice to collaborate with other agents, or attack them and steal their loot.
New York City is being overrun by hostile groups trying to take advantage of the crisis. Beware of the thugs who roam in packs through the city, preying on the weak. Fight against the Cleaners, who wear hazmat suits and wield flamethrowers, set on cleaning New York from the virus by burning everything and everyone. Engage with the Rikers, a gang of convicts that escaped Rikers Island when the chaos hit, and who are ravaging the city and vying for its control.
Gear Up and Customize your Agent

The best way I can describe this type of game play is a mixture of Gears of War and Borderlands. It's a third person shooter set in modern/near-future day "realistic" Military shooter.
If you can understand what this game is and what it's not supposed to be then you will enjoy this as I absolutely love this game.
As an update, the game has been out for a couple months now and although I still play this game regularly I want to let you know that the game has become notorious for its bugs and exploits. Many players are taking advantage of these in-game glitches to boost their characters rank and gear. Other glitches are just issues where some players are locked out of their characters and can't even log in, or stats and talents from weapons and gear are labeled incorrectly or don't do what they're supposed to do. I still enjoy the game but my play time as well as the population of active gamers for this game has decreased significantly because this game is just notorious for having a lot of glitches, bugs, and exploits. Even after a patch/update is released there seems to be new bugs found by gamers. They fix one problem but create another issue, it's pretty bad. And lastly, if you plan on getting this for PC, be prepared as hacking/hackers is/are rampant online.
I am a casual adult gamer, I play a few times a week with real life friends and family to catch up. We've been playing Destiny since beta and a few others on and off but for my group its grown stale lately because lets be honest how many times can you defeat the same boss and what not with the same exact mechanics. Also, try and find a raid group that doesn't require you to have weapons that can only be obtained with components from inside the raid...ugh destiny will chug along just fine without us till new content comes out. In my opinion the gameplay in the division does not differ that much from destiny other than 3rd vs 1st perspective and obviously human enemies vs spaghetti space monsters. Its mainly a numbers game, higher level loot better DMG/DPS and DMG resistance. If you've mainly played COD type one hit knife headshot shooters then this will disappoint but better gear will level the playing field.
My experience in the dark zone has been fantastic. I know it'll differ for everyone else but its my day off, i'm bored and time warner still isn't here yet so I'm gonna tell you about it. I wandered in at about PVE rank 5/6, your story rank(PVE) differs than your Dark Zone rank(PVP). i started playing about 4/5 days after the launch so by the time I got in I felt overwhelmed and underpowered. I was outgunned by everything as far as the eye could see. I was absolutely no threat to anyone at that moment so I explored a little and came upon a extraction zone where people were extracting. I took up shop in a truck bed and proceeded to shoot enemies. So for the first 3 levels all i did was cover the extraction point and help people extract. You might not be doing a lot of damage but people appreciate it and I had leveled up 3x and extracted some sweet loot. My point is feel free to walk up to groups and wave its a lot less intimidating than it seems. However you will encounter groups and individuals who will betray you so if you cant handle being used as a pack mule by a group till the extraction only to be betrayed right there? then the DZ may not be for you. It will happen more often when you playing solo but at least for me it spawns me back into the same lobby with the same players so don't get mad, get back in there and get even.
Once you complete the story, you start grinding. You grind the DZ, you grind dailies, you grind challenge modes, you grind the DZ... After a while the very vague story of the Division fades and it becomes: Push X to take cover, pop up with L1, shoot, take cover, loot. That's pretty much it.
Then you go in the DZ for some "PVP/PVE". There is no skill involved here unless you are facing a group of rogues that are geared nearly identical to your group. You are either going to melt the opposing group in seconds, or vice versa. The better coordinated, better gun controlling, better strategic group, will get run down by someone who got better drops than you, has more time to play than you, etc. And i mean someone, as in one person. One person will destroy a group of four if they have better gear. IMO, "PVP" should have SOME skill base. I know the people who already have 100's of hours in the game think its their right to run through the DZ and grief everyone, but if I shoot another player in the face with a sniper rifle, they should die. leave the NPC/Ai characters bullet sponges, I get it, but there should be some tweaks in PVP. This is one aspect I feel Destiny did right and made it fun for everyone to play. The crucible ignored light level making even lower light players relevant if they are good on the sticks. Sure, some weapons might have perks that make you a killer based on your play style, but there was still potential for everyone to have fun. Even Iron Banner, which acknowledges gear quality, was still playable for people who weren't completely outfitted in top-tier gear.
I know we have some updates coming out and hopefully it addresses some issues and re-breathes some life into the PVE aspect. The incursions need to be awesome though...really awesome, for me to continue playing this game.
This review is coming from someone who considers themselves to be a competitive player. I enjoy the PVE content, but in the end i'm here for the competitive aspect, and this game is just doing it wrong. That being said, you run out of PVE stuff to do really fast.
Kudos to whoever designed the matchmaking system. It is one of the best features in this game.
