Update - 2 months of use: I really wanted this device to work out, so Ive been willing and able to keep fixing the strap with a high quality silcone adhesive I used for auto gaskets. However, shortly after the return window ended. the device failed altogether.
The device charges and is recognized by the software app on my computer, (so, yes, I've done all the available software updates) but it now just flashes the words "Tom Tom" followed by blinking zeros (I'm an IT tech so I dont believe this is not a "user error" issue).
App metrics and info is useful
sleep tracking is easier to wear than the Spark or Adventurer or running versions.
Cons: The strap is garbage and broke within weeks of purchasing
replacement straps from tomtom are garbage.
the aftermarket straps are functional yet fail in practicality
the algorithm for sleep tracking leaves a lot to be desired--when charging the device believes you are sleeping.
I'm heavily invested in the tomtom fitness tracking universe. This is a carry over from my ipod nano which had a pedometer with nike+, which had a fancy integration with with the nike plus app--which became nike run club. I made the Nike plus fuel band purchase, and the Nike+ Watch which was a GPS run tracker with a heart rate monitor strap purchase. The GPS features were provided via tomtom and all my ipod nano Nike Plus/Nike Run Club miles carried over. Which is why I bought the TomTom Spark, and Adventurer. I have over 2000 running miles tracked with these devices.
When I found out that my VO2 Max and body composition could be measured with my sleep and recovery by using the Fitness Tracker it was an easy sell. Which I regret.
The device that is on the rear of the tracker that is responsible for the body compostisition measurement broke after 2 years of sporadic use. The ring of the device fell out. It looks like it was held in with an epoxy of some sort and a post keeps it aligned. The devices fails to function in its single role.
The strap broke with in weeks of the purchase. The aftermarket strap ejected the device during the simplest of wrist bumps. I learned that using transparent tape around the device in the aftermarket strap kept it in place. Which made charging an aggravating experience.
The sleep tracking feature does not work well with multiple tomtom devices. I still use the Spark and Adventurer during runs/bikes/swims/hikes/general-outdoor-malarky. This means I take off the fitness tracker while using the GPS devices. And this means that the fitness tracker thinks that i'm asleep. Which is strange because there is no heart rate data during this time--one would think that the lack of a heart rate would suggest that the user is dead, or at the very least not using the device.
I wish I would have made the leap to the Garmin device universe a long time ago. All the other fitness trackers have their different utilities, and apps. And all of the GPS devices fail to be everything i want. But this fitness tracker was a terrible experience from the first two weeks.
I wish i could give this to an enemy.
Unfortunately, however, it freezes almost every day. If its not just the screen freezing, the step calculator will stop working. The worst part is it doesn't even sync easily with the app, so you have to do a hard reset every other day. The screen also randomly stops working to the touch. Overall, a great product in theory, but alas, its not.
The screen is easily scratched, even though I had been extra careful not to scratch it.
The fitness tracker band will not last long (7 months) it broke apart where it holds the tracker and I tried to glue it but it hold the watch one week and it broke again. And there is one more problem, I haven't found the same black original band to buy and replace mine. In amazon the only available are the color ones, they don't have the black one.
The body composition doesn't work in your wrist, you have to place it in your arm to take a good measure.
If you want to use the notifications or the continuous heart rate monitor the battery will only hold for 2~3 days, the same happens if you leave the workout option on it will drain your energy fast.
It is a good fitness tracker with a good design, people will notice your tracker, however they have a lot to improve for a next generation tracker.

The main reason I bought this device was however for the body mass sensor. This is one of the first devices on the market to do this but unfortunately it widely misses the mark. The sensor is soo sporadic it's basically useless. It will work 1 out of every 50 times tried. I spent up to an hour trying to get this to work only to have it fail repeatedly. The heart rate monitor doesn't even seem that accurate either. I assume this problem occurs because I have darker skin as I have seen this work better for other friends. Either way this is very disappointing; I have used other products that were more accurate even with my skin tone.
Do NOT buy this. There are far better products available in the same price range that actually work.
