The best part of this kit is the blender pen. The set of primary Tombow brush pens I got came with its own blender pen, but they are so useful, and I like having a spare. The blending palette is just a thin piece of plastic perfect for mixing colors. It also has a color chart on the back. The spray bottle comes empty, but you just have to fill it with a little bit of water. Because the Tombow pens are water based, that's all you need to achieve different kinds of effects. You could use any kind of glass or plastic piece as a blending palette, and any small spray bottle, but the ones included in this kit are small and convenient to store. In addition to the extra blending pen, that makes this kit a worthwhile purchase to me.

The blending pen is great and works as it should; so does the mister. I love the small size! The blending palette, however, hardly lasted a week before it started soaking up the water and falling apart. It's essentially coated paper.
This kit might be nice to get if you're getting a smaller 10 piece set. If you're buying the entire collection of 96 colors, you already get a blending pen, so this kit is mostly unwarranted. You could find a small spray bottle in the travel section. There are also several things you could use to replace the blending palette- a credit card or anything similar to that material works, or if you need a bigger palette for backgrounds, you could use either a laminated sheet of paper, or buy a cheap flat paint palette. I found a set of 2 large ones at Hobby Lobby for 2.99 (actually less, because they always have a coupon!) and it works perfectly.
This kit isn't a bad kit- especially for the price (which is currently cheaper than the $7.99 I paid)- but if you're having to replace the main part of this kit so quickly, I'd suggest just spending money to get something that's going to last.

The product gets five stars. As described. Blends great. I just feel like a sucker for spending $8.99 on something I could have made myself. It’s literally a piece of laminated card stock, a blending pen (that comes in EVERY Tombow pen set) and a small empty plastic spray bottle. Although it also comes with blending directions, I again feel silly because I’d already googled “how to” and got it for free.
Save your money and just laminate an index card. 😉

The Tombow blender is good for detailed work - where you want a tiny brush with a fairly hard tip. However, it's not really good for blending together larger areas because the tip is small and it really doesn't dispense all that much water. I recommend adding the Pentel Aquash brushes to your collection to allow you to really blend with ease. I'll also add that I go through these pretty quickly - in just a few pictures the tip got pretty worn out and not so fine anymore. Still works, but no longer good for that detailed work I had in mind.
As for the blender palette, this is basically just piece of plasticized paper. You could do just as well transparency sheets, acrylic sheets, etc. Nothing special here. It's flimsy- it's not hard.
The blending guide is really simple.

Eh this was a decent buy I suppose. The blending palette is basically lamenated paper that has a picture of all of the colors available from Tombow and the other side is white and says blending palette. Still useful though as you can create new colors with Tombow markers and then use the clear blending marker to color with the new colors. I haven't used the mister yet but the label is peeling off of mine so dust, hair, dirt etc keeps getting trapped in it and makes it look meh. Otherwise it's all still cool and it's not expensive so it's worth the buy if you are a Tombow marker fan.

The palette does work as an aid to mixing colors. It isn't necessary strictly as an aid to blending; a watercolor brush does just as well. The "blending pen" is now almost famous as a tool the main effect of which is to pick up some color from whatever you use it on - and as such, I think most people don't use it to help blend two shades ot two somilar similar colors. The spray mister could be helpful, in conjunction with the palette, to create lighter shades of a color - but again, a watercolor brush can do the same thing, with more control.

I was a bit worried when I saw some of the negative reviews. I use this set with the 96-pen assortment to color the white edges on paper models, and the occasional touch-up or detailing. The pen is well made with good proportions. I've only used the "brush" end so far, but it is holding up well, and is just the right shape and size for getting into tight corners (tiny tip) or following curves (full side). The misting bottle works fine, looks like it will last a long time. The blending palette is 4" x 6", which is plenty big enough for blending the small batches I normally require. The color guide is okay, but I always make my own for the the various papers I use (mostly mid-range card stock and high-end matt photo paper). The price seems to fluctuate a lot... I paid a reasonable $5.81 on 11 July 2017, it's $6.16 at the time of this review. It was overpriced when it was $14 (as mentioned in a few other reviews). All-in-all I'm happy with these, and I'd buy it again at the current price.

The 10-packs come with a colorless blender, which I didn't know. That was why I got this one. The blending palette can be substituted with a sheet of transparency or even the plastic package of the 10-packs. The mister is just a really fine mist. But for the price, why not just get it all together.

Reviewed in Germany on April 4, 2016Size: 3 PiecesVerified Purchase

Reviewed in Mexico on November 2, 2018Size: 3 PiecesVerified Purchase

Reviewed in Italy on March 22, 2021Size: 3 PiecesVerified Purchase
Davvero? :|
