Now that I run a wedding invitation business and sometimes need to assemble invitations and envelope liners, I needed a trustworthy adhesive applicator.
I purchased both the Scotch and the Mono dispenser. The Scotch brand is much easier to apply and doesn't fall apart or stay on the roller like the Mono one does.
Exhibit A: Top strip is from the Mono dispenser, the glue sometimes breaks and forms a lump.
Bottom trip is from the Scotch dispenser, because of the dotted design it breaks evenly and stays flat.
Update: after using it for a little bit, the bumps cleared out, making it stick like it's supposed to. I also use this as a non permanent solution for sticking paper or pictures to my walls. There's still the problem with the cap not being secure though, so if you're trying to choose between the duck tape brand and this one, you're choosing between non secure cap or falling apart when you drop it.
You may be thinking, "Well, there's always user error." I had sealed one short end of each box shut using regular old double-sided tape, except for one box, which I had sealed with the Tombow adhesive. That was the only box which popped open along the short end. The other twenty-nine boxes remained sealed where they had been taped. I had treated each box the same way, and had used the adhesive according to the package directions. The boxes were not overstuffed, and they were not subjected to any temperature extremes or alien environments. This is just a cruddy product.
12/1/17 UPDATE: After trying a number of sticky products over the last year, I've found that Elmer's CraftBond Permanent Tape Runner works well, as does Scor-Pal's Scor-Tape. Scotch Double Sided Tape in the yellow box never disappoints me. Tonic Studios' Funky Glue is a good liquid glue in a fine-tipped applicator bottle. (I'm not affiliated with any company; I'm just spreading a little love to products which have lived up to their claims.)
There's a learning curve to getting the pressure right, but it works well! And I've adhered so many things with it (about 10 pages in my art journal and more in my planner) but there is still so much left on the roll!
Archival quality crafting is important to me and that's what this is.
You should know that once you stick your item with adhesive, it is REALLY stuck. There's no repositioning anything without destruction. But that's it's purpose! So yay!
I get why my crafter and archival friends love this adhesive.
If you happen to use glue sticks this is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS and I would recommend you give it a try. Much more expensive than glue sticks so for a school teacher this is not a viable option to have a classroom set.
