-The saturation is wonderful! Each pencil has a wide graduation of color. You do not have to press hard to transfer a rich color to paper. I've included a picture of a color chart I made so you can see the amount of difference you can make with just a little change in pressure.
-They aren't quite as smooth as Prismacolor, ever so slightly scratchy on the paper. But they also do no get a wax build up, or wax bloom, quickly like Prismacolor. I was able to put several layers of pencil on and it would still take more pigment. This makes them wonderful for shading.
-Even though the lead is soft, it feels strong. It does not feel like the lead is going to crumble while sharpening or coloring and they keep their point well. I did not have to sharpen again after just a small patch of coloring.
-They feel nice in your hand. The outer wood is very smooth and comfortable to hold but not slippery.
-They erase well! I try not to erase often, but sometimes it is necessary. Many pencils still leave behind a stain but these erased completely without having to dig at the paper, ruining the tooth. I used a Prismacolor eraser.
-The silver and gold are shiny and have a hint of glitter in them, a very nice metallic look. I attached a picture to try and show how they look on paper.
Overall, I think these are great colored pencils! My only complaint is the slight scratchiness but I think that is because of less wax which is what allows it to have such a range of shades and ability for so many layers. I also wish they came in a larger variety of colors.
I have the more expensive Tombow Irojiten pencils and I love them, but I didn't really want to spend that much for a set for my 12 year old. This is a very nice set at a great price for a child or even adults that enjoy coloring books. So many cheap colored pencils feel waxy or leave crumbly debris on the paper, but these do not. These are smooth and creamy--especially when you consider the price. They do blend nicely, and work well with a blender pencil too. This set comes with a nice storage tin (see my photos). They feel really nice in your hand, and the recycled wood barrels are quite different than any other pencils I have, and are actually very pretty. The printing on the barrel even matches the color of the lead.
I'm so pleased with the set of 12, that I am ordering more for all the 'tween' birthday parties that my daughter goes to. I kind of wish I had purchased this larger set for my daughter instead the 12 pencil set!
The Recycled pencils have beautiful wood casing. The core is nice and thick and adheres well to the casing. I don't have any issues with breakage using either a hand held pencil sharpener or my electric one.
I was able to get good pigment, layer and blend with these pencils. I colored my first project using all 24 colors as well as blends of a wide variety of colors. I'll post a photo of that project.
I think that these are a decent value for a starter set. I would like to see more colors made available and for the pencils to be sold open stock. I really missed not having a flesh tone in the set. Otherwise, I enjoyed using the pencils and they did a good job.
They come in a sturdy tin and there was no damage or breakage. The pencils I sharpened did well with a handheld sharpener. They have a thick core and the cores are nicely centered. The colors on the ends of the pencils correspond well with the lead colors, except the yellow, white and magenta. The yellow and white mostly because the natural wood color comes through the paint. The magenta on the other hand comes out a much darker/grayer color the the paint on the end, more burgundy or wine color than magenta.
Overall I quite like them and they are a nice addition to my coloring tools.
