I am not a professional cyclist, cannot even say that I am an intermediate cyclist, but I have owned a Gt avalanche 1.0 mountain bike for a bout six years. I am not a small guy, I am 6' 1" and 290lbs. I bought the illimitate because I knew nothing about bike fitting when I bought the avalanche. I put some really good mileage on the avalanche and was able to drop about 30 lbs in 2 and a half months of getting the bike by just riding everywhere I had to go. No diet changes nothing, just riding. But increasingly I was coming off the bike with a pain in my left side, primarily because I had to raise the saddle too high to be comfortable on the bike. I was not doing any off road riding I changed the tires because I was road riding strictly. But increasingly the discomfort was too much to ignore so as much as I was enjoying cycling and the obvious benefits I put down the bike for over a year. I perused all different brands makes and styles of road bike because I wanted to get back into cycling and also I had packed back on the pounds I had lost plus more. I settled on the illimitate because I found that by comparison it was indeed the best value for the money I was spending. I wanted to purchase the bike from giantnerd.com but because of an issue with my card I made the purchase from Amazon. I bought an XL because I did not want to have anymore issues that would prevent me from riding. The bike is awesome a little on the heavy side but man it is fun to ride. I have had to get a shorter stem because the XL is for riders 6'2" and up so the reach was a little long, I am looking to change the handlebars because I have extremely wide shoulders and the maximum width of these handlebars are 44cm so a 48 or 50 cm I think would be ideal for me. But he bike handles exceptionally well, the shifting on the tiagra components is crisp and precise. I had to take it to the local bike shop when the bike arrived because I did not get the ready to ride build from giantnerd as I bought the bike on amazon. Because I'm a heavy guy gravity is not my friend when climbing hills, however with the illimitate I even find it to be less of a struggle than with the avalanche which has a wider gear ratio for climbing. The avalanche has better brakes as the brakes are hydraulic versus the mechanical disc on the illimitate. But the difference is nothing for me to quibble over as it still gets the job done even when I am descending a hill at 50mph,yea you read right, with this weight I have reached those speeds in descent many times,gravity and I have an intimate relationship when I'm going downhill. But I have given this bike 5 stars because the cons are too miniscule to be a determining factor. I am enjoying this bike thoroughly and that is a must when you are 40 + and working on a NY exercise rigimen, you have to enjoy it or you will just eventually quit. It is an awesome bike and one that will see me to my weight goal.
I wanted to put a few thousand miles on this bike before reviewing and feel pretty confident I can give an accurate account of the pros and cons. I bought it as a commuter to work but my commutes involve some distance and climbing so I wanted something sturdy but fairly inexpensive.

It's a bike. And it looks good. Unfortunately it's not a very good bike. Not for $1000. You can get more value at your local bike store in a Giant, Trek, Specialized etc. The brakes are awful and it's very heavy so if you intend on riding off road or doing any climbing you'll expect to make some expensive upgrades to the brakes and wheel set. This won't change the fact that this is one of the heaviest aluminum frames I've ever ridden. Aluminum has come a long way over the years but Tommaso hasn't gotten the memo. I use it as a commuter but tend to get about 2000ft climbing between work and back. The breaks are not intended for more than cruising around town. Certainly not for gravel riding as it's intended. I've had significant issues with the brakes. I was sceptical anyway but found that shipping to Performance Bicycles to have assembled was a joke. I had to take it to my bike shop to have everything redone. Avoid this option. They don't care and their mechanics are terrible. Then the paint job. It looks cool, at first. I have a dozen "big brand" bicycles and mostly high end $3000 -$6000 but even of the cheaper more casual rides I have the paint has never chipped or come off like this. The Tommaso's paint may be it's worst drawback. It's so bad a brake cable near the hesdtube has literally worn the paint to the metal just from turning the handlebars.
At the end of the day this bike is not a great value. You're not going to get the support of buying a new bike from your FLBS and you can do more with $1000. I was curious and took a chance but do regret not investing the money in something else.

I've had this bike for a few months now and have put a little over 1,200 miles on it. I mainly use it for commuting to and from work but have also raced it in some local cyclocross races and have taken it to several cross country trails. The bike itself holds up pretty well. I haven't had trouble with any of the main components, though after one particularly bumpy ride, one of the spokes unscrewed itself from the nipple and I had to re-true the wheel a bit.
If you are planning on taking this bike off the road, I would recommend switching out the tires to something better. also note that the top of the handlebars are flat and a little wide, so if your lights or other gear is made to be connected to a rounded bar, they might not fit on this bike. All in all, it is a good all purpose bike and a pretty good price for the included components.

Bonjour Mon velo est très beau la géométrie du velo me vas très bien mais malheureusement j'ai trouvé plusieurs problèmes: Premièrement le velo n'est pas assemblé. Il coûte donc plus de 100$ pour faire assembler et ajuster le vélo. Cela n'était pas mentionné dans l'offre. Les câbles de frein sont trop courts Les trous du disque à frein sont mal percé, ce qui fait que le disque saute tout le temps. Les deux derniers pignons de la cassette sont défectueux. Pour que le vélo soit à sa pleine fonctionnalité il faudrait changer la cassette ou les deux pignons ce qui génère encore des frais d'au moins 100$ de piece plus la main d'œuvre. J aimerais savoir comment vous me dédommagerez de tout ces inconvénients. Je croyais recevoir un bon produit. Encore une fois merci de me dire comment vous réglerez la situation. Comme indiqué sur notre liste de produits, point de balle numéro 5, l'assemblage professionnel est requis sur le vélo. Nous n'offrons aucun type de service de montage sur les vélos, comme c'est le cas avec tous les vélos sur Amazon.
Si les engrenages inférieurs de la cassette sont vacillants, le magasin qui l'ajoute il suffit d'enlever l'anneau de verrouillage et assurez-vous que les bagues de cassette sont assises correctement et rétorquées. Cela devrait être inclus dans tout assemblage professionnel que vous avez fait avant de conduire le vélo, car il s'agit d'une partie standard de l'assemblage de vélo. Nous n'avons jamais entendu parler d'une instance où une nouvelle cassette Shimano était défectueuse, ce qui devrait vous résoudre instantanément.
Les trous sur le rotor sont tous standardisés, ce qui ne serait pas la cause du problème. Si elle saute, c'est parce que le rotor est plié et qu'il faut redresser et alligner pendant votre montage au magasin. Tous les magasins ont cet outil, et encore une fois, il est très standard pour l'assemblage d'un vélo.
En ce qui concerne les câbles, ils peuvent très bien être un peu éloignés de l'usine, et nous sommes heureux de rembourser votre compte de 25 $ qu'il en coûte pour les remplacer lorsque vous obtenez le vélo assemblé. Au prix qu’il m’a coûté je pouvais avoir un super velo telle que le surly disc trucker avec une garantie à mon cartier. Bon conclusion mauvaise affaire
