I'm Listening With a Broken Ear was the first Kaseorg book I became aware of. As it turned out, it was all true, and her first published book . . . a run-away Amazon best seller.
My family and I loved the story of her rescuing an abused dying dog, and with help, making it into a loyal pet and agility champion. As the book climbed into Amazon's top sales spot, we began following Vicky's career.
In less than a year, she published God Drives a Tow Truck: An Anthology of True Encounters. This compilation of her lifetime of quasi-miraculous occurances parallel her religious conversion to her current beliefs. Some of these stories originally appeared in Vicky's daily BLOG. This is how we learned much of her.
In a short period her two books have exceeded 90,000 deliveries, with 'Broken Ear' taking the No. 1 spot for quality Pet Stories!
She next discovered a virtually unkbown American WWII hero who had spent a lifetime poetically recording his philosophy, feelings and reactions . . . up to his current age 93. She edited these, and Amazon published a slim volume of Comer Lafayette's Poems.
Her new "Tommy" resulted in having the pet rescuer instrumental in saving 'Broken Ear' introduce Vicky to "Tommy", suggesting his story might, properly written, make an insightful, instructional and inspirational children's book. Indeed.
Vicky tells of a canine Helen Keller, except Tommy was so handicapped from birth.

Author Vicky Kaseorg cutely tells this true story not only with Tommy's voice but mostly with Tommy's emotions. This is not a simple picture book with a few words; this is a full-fledged story for elementary aged children (and their families) to gently learn about the cruel world of puppy-dumping and the loving world of dog-rescuing. Seeing both worlds from Tommy's perspective (and his rescuers') really opens the readers eyes and heart to what really happens to a living creature that not only deserves but also craves love and happiness.

The illustrations, also by Kaseorg, are equally deserving of this great book and story; they are delightful.

A simple story of acceptance of who (or what) you are, rising above your circumstance to let yourself be happy, and (if you read between the lines) knowing that God simply don't make no junk. Not since Stein's dog Enzo wrote "The Art of Racing in the Rain" has another doggy author touched the heart strings with their philosophical approach to life. Aided by ghost writer Kaseorg and amazing artistic renderings (also by Kaseorg), the story will be one that you ponder after you finish this short but powerful tribute to a keen dog and great rescue organization (Hollow Creek Farm), and you'll know for sure that God don't make no junk.

I bought this book because I had enjoyed her first book about a dog she rescued and how her daughter worked with the dog to make it a champion in agility. We have a Pet Responsibility Committee where I live in North Carolina that each year presents a great program in all the schools to fourth graders about pets and our responsibility to them. I wish I could afford to buy more copies so that there would be one for each elementary school, as they like to put these books into the school libraries, and go over them with the classes. But I will give the book to the co-chair of the committee and perhaps they can use it. It was the reason I bought it, and I think it would make a nice part of their curriculum. I couldn't think of its exact title, but "I'm Listening with a Broken Ear" was the first book by Vicky that I read and I recommend it highly. She writes beautifully and with great humor and humility.

I just hope all animal lovers read this and realize a handicapped dog doesn't know it. They adapt with a little TLC. I have been around deaf dogs but not deaf and blind so this was really heartfelt. We all need to get our pets from shelters. Let the breeders for show dogs buy and sell them.

This is a short tale, but a beautiful one. Told from the puppy's viewpoint it tugs at the heart, but manages to capture the true spirit of Tommy. Abandoned by his breeder because of his so-called disability, Tommy is rescued and goes on to live a perfectly happy life (I don't consider this information a spoiler, rather encouragement to read this story). He is hardly even inconvenienced by his disability. A lesson in this for all of us about the ability of dogs to live every day to its fullest. A round of applause to this author, once again a great dog story.

If you haven't read it yet, think about grabbing a copy of 'I'm Listening With a Broken Ear' by the same author - one of my favourite dog books.

I love this book. Supposedly it is a book for children but I am an adult and I enjoyed it very much. I am so happy that Tommy found such a wonderful place for his forever home. I wish all homeless dogs could find such a place. I always get shelter dogs and have two right now. One is sleeping on the sofa and the other one is sleeping on the loveseat with me. People who do not get their dogs from a shelter don`t know what they are missing. I love you Tommy and I am so happy that you are in such a wonderful place. I send you lots of kisses.
