This book can be read alone, you do not have to have read Chasing Someday to understand or enjoy this book but I will say that I made the second time I read it so much clearer.
Tomorrow's Lullaby is the story after Sienna goes off to Academy of Arts and she meets and is dating 2 guys. One is new to the school and they have a spark. Unexpected things happen to create issues back in Utah. You know life is never easy, even as a young adult. I love how Lindzee Armstrong shows the true sides of open adoptions as well as showing us the adoptee side as well. Once again a book I could not put down from the first page to the end... both times I read it.
Sienna finds herself, several years after placing her son in a loving home, in the middle of college and trying to figure out life. Her choices in her past have changed and moulded her into the person she is. She has set very specific rules for herself to try and avoid the same heartaches and sorrows from her past. When she meets a stranger in one of her college classes, her whole world is going to take some new twists and spins. She will be faced with more heart aching moments and decisions to make as well as things from her past that will add more pressure to her world.
Aaron happens to be very lucky when he has a blonde beauty sit next to him in class at the start of a new semester. She's beautiful, fun, kind, humorous and has caught his attention completely. As he starts to get to know her and share his past with her, will she be able to understand his emotions and feelings of his past? Aaron was adopted and loves his family but has never quite felt like he fit in, although they love him lots and are trying their best to do what they think will make him happy. He has a lot of anger in his life towards his birth mother.
When Aaron's frustrations, anger and hurt start to collide with Sienna's own feelings and experience as a birth mother, will their relationship be able to move forward or will they not see eye to eye. Both have had completely different experiences with adoption and adoptive families. Can Sienna open up and share her story with Aaron? If she does will she ruin any chance she has with him? What about Jared, the guy she's been dating some? If she shares her past with him would he be willing to forgive her and accept her as she is? Sienna cares for both men and knows they both care for her and respect her. Who will she hurt and will she choose the right man for her?
I have several cousins who were adopted and even with adoption they were just like every other member of the family. They were our family and we loved them as if they were biological members of our family. Most of my cousins didn't have any problems with their adoptions but I did have one cousin who struggled with her birth mother just like Aaron did. She had a lot of anger and didn't understand why her mom could give her up. For a long time she didn't want to meet her or even think about that possibility. But when we were teenagers she had the opportunity to travel to the city where she was born and her mother lived. Her and her parents hoped to find information and meet with her birth mother. Long story made short, when they arrived and went through the process they discovered her birth mother had passed away. It was not an easy thing to watch her go through.
Sometimes Aaron's anger was frustrating to read because on the other hand you have Sienna and her thoughts and experience, which was positive and good, but watching what my cousin went through I can understand his feelings. I really liked the way the author connected all the different thoughts and emotions together and in the end the characters found ways to have resolution and peace.
This is a Christian fiction novel and has moments where the characters attend church and where Sienna draws on peace from the Lord to help her heal and give her strength in harder moments. None of the moments were preachy, more just a few thoughts that the characters would have. I thought it was really well done and enjoyed it.
One last thing that I loved about this book was the music. Sienna is trying to audition to Julliard with piano performance. This brought back so many memories. Definitely added a lot of stress to everything else that she was dealing with. Back in high school as I was preparing for college, I also went through the intense hours of practicing and getting ready for auditions. I would sit at my piano for hours upon hours going over the music again and again and again. Yeah, I was remembering all those emotions and going to my auditions. Sometimes I still have heart palpitations. Lol.
Content: Clean. There is talk about Sienna being pregnant out of wedlock as a teenager but nothing more than that. A few sweet kisses.
I received a book from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
