A Quiet Delight

My child LOVES this story, and so do I. We live in an area with a long, hard winter and it is a delight to have a story that reminds us that "winters come and winters go". This is a nice, calm story for bedtime. The language is quiet and peaceful, and we get to visit all of the different farm animals with the Tomten as they settle down for the night. My child has already committed some of the repeated sentences to memory, which will doubtless help when it is time to learn to read.

I grew up with this lovely, serene book of a little gnome-like being who watches over a farm by night. His existence is quiet. He adores animals and speaks to them of coming seasons. He wishes he could talk to children, as, like animals, they would be able to speak to him and understand him-- yet children sleep at night. Truly a classic of children's literature. Beautiful illustrations. I always wanted to meet a Tomten.
