Just a note - I am horrified that people are upset because the child telling the story is a girl. What a sad statement on society's expectations of gender roles and how it seems some would still like to limit females in their aspirations. My son is a child. I am not teaching him bigotry. And the book is about being a fire fighter, something a child of either gender finds fascinating. He loves the truck, the descriptions of siren, sliding down the pole, and the fire being put out, and he LOVES that the girl is going to see her grandma with her toy truck in hand, just like he does. Why do adults have to put their archaic biases on children? Let the kids enjoy the fire truck book, because it is a really good one for both boys and girls alike.
Tell your two year old even firefighters read this book. True story folks.
