I purchased this for my 4.5yo daughter for christmas, (maybe for my inner kid also ;)
What attracted me to it was the thought of not needing to go over and put this cat back on its legs every time it landed upside down and thats the way it is. flips upside down and keeps rolling on!
Has plenty of power but i recommend also getting the double power secondary battery Tenergy 9.6V 2000mAh NiMH High Capacity Battery Pack for RC Car, Robots, Security and it lasts even longer and charges with the device supplied with this.
It drives on the road and through puddles, snow, ice, grass, mud & sand. Verified and tested by me.
Crashed it into a few poles, rocks, trees. Drove it down concrete steps and it still soldiers on.
Wouldnt pay the extra $ for the different color car though, that seems silly.
Anyway, definitely worth a buy!
The short test drive I did give it was after it had just rained and this thing was spinning all over the place. I was able to control it after some practice, but I was never able to get it to flip because it could never get enough traction on the wet pavement. It did go over some grass, but it's definately not made for that type of terrain. I'm sure it would do excellent on any hard surface, but in tall grass this thing is not very fun.
I haven't tried the memory feature, but honestly this is just a gimmick that the car doesn't need. It performs well on it's own and doesn't need gimmicks. I'd say it reaches speeds of 15-20 mph (my guestimate) and the speed and turn porpotional controllers work well. The range is also nice. I was about 50 feet away having no issues controlling the car. Build quality seems good. I drove it off some curbs and into some curbs and it never flinched.
Overall I'm satisfied with what the car is, but if your contemplating giving this to anyone under the age of about 6, I'd think twice.
I also bought an additional battery because many reviewers said it drained quickly, but we haven't needed it yet. It's just too cold to stay outside with a kid his age for very long, and it is a bit too powerful to have an extended session in our small house. It is also much larger and sturdier than I expected, so that makes it more cumbersome in the house as well. It can be done tho, just not at its full potential.
On Christmas day we took it out and jumped it off of our 4-step concrete stairs and out into the asphalt street, over curbs, grass and dirt with very minimal scratches, and it never got high-centered. I even managed to get it up on two wheels for a short stint!
Overall it was an excellent purchase, and I'm glad I left it in my cart for a few days because the price fluctuated greatly before Christmas, and I ended up getting it for $39.99.
My only advice it to know that you will get the greatest enjoyment out of this thing outside in a large space where you can really let it loose.
When fully charged it is tough and pretty fast. I play with it in basement with kids and it can run over almost anything. It is a pretty big size and heavy for an R/C car. When you reverse and then suddenly go forward, the car flips which is kinda cool. And it goes a decent speed in either direction and regardless which side is on top.
One of my tires is loose and doesn't hold nicely on the rim, so the whole car starts wobbling. When I adjust the tire and fit it on the wheel better, it keeps geting loose quickly over and the drive wobbly again. This is especially frustrating when the battery only lasts for brief minutes.
Anyway, it's fun overall, but somewhat a hassel to get going. It's a good thing it's for kids, and they tend to be surprisingly more patient for this sort of thing than an adult is.
Only complaints -- the "record stunts" feature doesn't seem to work very consistently, and the rubber tires sometimes come off the rim a bit and need to be slid back into place (the dog may be responsible for having dislodged them in the first place as she ran alongside and bit the tires while the car was going at full speed). I don't care too much about the stunt replay anyhow -- key is that it goes fast, over rough terrain and is solid -- we're having lots of fun with it.
