The story of Hope and Adan gave me huge 80's movies vibes. Remember Overboard with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn? That's what I had stuck in my head while reading this book. It was the same story, just flipped where it was the hero who lost his memory and the heroine was the one tricking him into living her fake life. And she has one kid, instead of three like in the movie.
There were so many things that didn't make sense to me in this story, and some even made me cringe (like all the things she was telling him about their pretend marriage). 80's vibe or not, the story is taking place in the present where people have cell phones and wifi. How in the hell did Adan not look anything up while trying to remember who he was?? At least look up the goofy last name she told you that you have! That added to the fake age she gave you, and you should know that you pretty much don't exist. If the man was able to call an Uber in the middle of Nowhere, Idaho, then the internet access should have been nothing. Also, how was he able to get out of the hospital without giving them any personal information? There is no hospital across the 50 states that will take you in and let you walk out without taking your DOB, SSN, address and ins info at a minimum. It would've worked back in 1985, but 2017 is totally different, they're like vultures for that.
And, seriously, Hope could not think to call her cousin and tell him about Adan's accident? Two months she kept everyone in the dark. I was just like... 😧
So all in all, the story was just not believable enough for me. It was just one immature decision after another. And towards the end when Hope blamed her friend for it all, I was just done. Hope needed to grow up big time. Her big speech to Adan at the end left me cold and annoyed. Her tears did not impress me at all, quite the opposite.
So sorry, but this was not my cup of tea at all 🤷🏼♀️
Hope Lucas is caught in a situation and every turn she makes just gets her in deeper and deeper. But what is a girl to do when faced with losing everything because of an entitled jerk bent on making her life miserable? And when one harmless little white lie snowballs into something so much more complicated, Hope just doesn't know how to end it without losing everything.
Aden "Smith"! There is a lot more there than meets the eye in the beginning. I really didn't want to like anything about this guy. He's had it with women, and with being used. Not that I don't believe he brought on a lot of that himself, but you can bet he will do ANYTHING to keep from allowing it to continue. Including convincing himself that all women, whether in Hollywood or in small-town Idaho, are only out for what they can get.
Things start out bad and only escalate from there between Hope and Aden. I think I shook my head in complete awestruck wonder more times in this book than I have in a long time. And I laughed, great big belly laughs. I mean, really, Hope?!? What were you thinking?
Thank you, Jordan Marie, for once again giving your readers a fantastic read, no matter how convoluted the road to our much-loved HEA was!!!
I had love hate relationship with Aden. From the first page of him, he was a d***. There's no going around it. I wanted to whack over that stupid head of his so many times! The smaller one too. ;) He was just so... But then when accident happened and his guard were down... It was like I'm seeing another man. A man that did won me over. I just wish I could seen more of that side of his, when Aden got his memories back.
And Hope.... You can say I had love/hate relationship with her too. Or it was more like laughing so hard you are crying because of her to having tears but that time because you are frustrated with her. I really loved crazy s*** coming from Hopes mouth. How the heck she come up with them out of the blue, I'm still wondering. Honestly, on those occasions I wasn't sure to feel sorry for Aiden or just say 'Karma is a b****, dude!' Lol But Hope drove me crazy, and not in the good way, with her bypassing 'come clean' moment. She would give a weak try, but she never really tried that hard. Because at the end Hope wanted another minute of being near Aden and in his arms. Ignoring tomorrow.
One of the best things was Lucas family. I love to see at least a glimpse of them. Love that crazy colourful family. And I adore Ida Sue. That woman....
