In the first part of this book the author goes over different kinds of arthritis that may hit people of any age. The point of that section is not to help you to self-diagnose, only to motivate you to visit your physician.
Greater part of this book deals with physical exercises you may do to increase your mobility and with a nutritional plan. The author has included 91 recipes to help you cope with arthritis. The main food item considered to be helpful for arthritis is wild salmon, due to high levels of omega 3 oils. Farmed salmon, may not be so good because it may have more omega 6 oil, which contributes to inflammation, rather than omega 3, which prevents it.
The author doesn't seem to believe glucosamine and chondroitin supplements to be that helpful for arthritis and in his opinion calcium is more helpful. While he does mention turmeric, it is not on top of his list, and some people do find turmeric, boswellin and hyaluronic acid very helpful for mobility.
He shares his view of many alternative therapeutic modalities, however these are based mainly upon his opinion and understanding and not really on any practical experience with these modalities and I personally prefer to read what someone has to share based on one's experience, not mere guessing. Still, you may find the mention of these different modalities helpful and may want to experiment with them, as at least none of them have any dismal side-effects like pharmaceutical drugs.
This a great book! Dr. Blau writes as if he is speaking directly to you. Makes for a very easy and enjoyable read. Lots of information about inflammation, joint pain, arthritis, etc. He explains a great deal about why and when it is necessary to see a rheumatologist. There are many options for treatment. Great tips for OTC meds, foods to eat and avoid, exercises to help strengthen joints. Many recipes too. I highly recommend this book!!!
It's too early to say whether or not the arthritis treatment proposed by the author really works well. However, the Amazon transaction was great. I ordered the book used at a significantly lowered price. It arrived within a couple of days in fine condition. As advertised, it was a volume retired from a public library due to some insignificant water damage, and with the library's nameplate and filing labels intact. No different than any book I would have borrowed from the library - except that I can keep it as long as I want (or need) with no "overdue fees".
