Diana's high society mother-from-hell and her absent, famous father left her unprepared to face adulthood without the constant aid of alcohol and drugs. She might have had a career in acting, but she drank away the opportunities that came just from being a Barrymore.
Every page or two described some horrible event that left me shaking my head; I alternated between pitying her and thinking her selfish and spoiled. There was a pretty good movie made based on this book, but reading her own words is very real and gut-wrenching.
A fascinating book.
Not much really family detail on the Barrymore's due to the fact Diana didn't really see them much or know them.
It was still an enjoyable read. Lot of boozing between Diana and her husbands. Diana dies three years after the book is published. If you want to know more about her check Wikipedia
