I will set the record straight for anyone looking at this tool, OR to cut out their windshield.

First off the positive points; this tool works. As many have stated you will have an easier time cutting if you leave your vehicle in the sun for a bit. This thing cut the urethane like butter and I do not know what everyone else was doing with their blades but I still have the same blade on it from out of the box. I think that if you do not keep the blade parallel to the glass when cutting and pulling you can potentially damage or bend the blade.

Now for the negative; the blade is too short. I read this by a few other users before buying it and thought "Ill give it a shot, maybe my vehicle will be different". WRONG! Factory urethane and probably aftermarket windshield replacements as well have an area in which the urethane is applied. It is not just a half inch bead all the way around, some spots were over an inch wide while others were as small as half an inch. The blade will typically only work on the outside rim of the windshield which created a huge mess in my experience. I could only cut about 50% of the windshield out with this tool, the rest I had to pry on the glass and use another knife. This tool did get it started, but after all the shards of glass popped out of the cracks from the windshield, and the few nicks in the paint I have made, just pay a professional $100 or whatever for the install. I am a DIY guy, and I am glad I had the experience, but this is not a proper tool. Whats worse is after everything else is done you still need to remove all of the urethane from the vehicle.

Pretty self-explanatory. A must needed tool for removing glass from a car.

Works like it should if you know what you're doing. If you buy one of these,
buy the spare tips..... it's not much fun when the tip is worn out

The windshield removal tool aka cold knife is made of durable metal.....However the replaceable blades wear quickly. I broke the first blade before even getting the window out.. I would suggest buying extra blades and a braided wire from the hardware store to do the bottom of the window which is really hard to do with a cold knife. Even with this tool it is easy to brake a windshield you are removing in the junkyard at a place like pic-a-part/pull-a-part... BE VERY CAREFUL and take your time.

I have a project car that is 35 years old, being a project car I can't roll it outside to bake in the sun. So I removed the windshield and rear glass with all of the odds against me. It was cold (mid 50's), the silicone was aged and hard, and I was a rookie that had no idea what I was doing. I used a single blade razor to remove any excess silicone and then went to work with this tool. It worked PERFECTLY. I removed the windshield and 85% of the rear window before I felt I needed to swap to the (included) 2nd blade to get the job done. Highly recommend this tool over the knock off at Harbor Freight for the same price.

this tool only works on windshields with a soft gasket under them. If you are trying to remove an older windshield with super hard gasket material this tool is not effective. Abrasive wire pulled through the gasket works much better.

The tool will get the job done but leaves a bit to be desired. Two blades got me through a single windshield but I would need more to use the tool again.

Changing the blades also not as simple as expected as one of the screws was WAY too tight and the screw material is very soft, which will strip if you aren't careful.

I was able to remove my windshield in colder temperatures (~40F) but I had to heat up the adhesive with a heat gun to get the knife to even move.

It will get the job done but this tool is not a quality item. If it was under $10 I would have given it 4 stars.

This tool is not bad but lack of knurling on the handles and poor quality blades that are included make this tool less effective then competitors with knurled handles. I replaced the blades with high quality ones, wrapped some grip tape around the handles and it works well enough. Get the knurled handle models and some high end blades.

It took some practice to get the angle just right, but I have been able to remove 3 rear windows and 1 front windshield with this tool. I have done this on older muscle cars with both original and replacement glass. With both old and new adhesive the tool worked effectively to cut the adhesive and allow removal of the glass without damage to the glass. It does take some practice, but once you get the angle along the glass and under the glass right the strength required to pull the tool will not be significant. Quality of the tool is good and I am still on my original blade.
