One thing I LOVE about this book is that the author explains why certain changes are good for us. For example, the author gives an easy to understand explanation of how our body works. Yet this isn’t a dry or stuffy read. Quite the opposite - reading this book is like chatting with a knowledgeable and caring relative.
Lastly “Toolkit for Wellness” is incredibly practical. You have no excuse not to take action. Each chapter concludes with a set of take away actions you can apply right away. Whether it's reducing your stress, transforming your diet, or forming new habits, this book educates and inspires. There’s even a handy chapter of recommended recipes.
I’m grateful to the author for sharing her wisdom with us and will be recommending “Toolkit for Wellness” to friends and family.
With a background in nursing and teaching, Deidre knows a thing or two about the truth behind the questions on food and eating that plague our minds most days. Her book is more than just about food though, it's about improving your families health and their total wellness.
I like the way the author talks about health being more than what you eat. It's also includes how you think, your emotions and the spiritual aspect of your life. This book has a lot of descriptive content that breaks down the meaning of what wellness really means.
So, if you are wanting to know how to reduce stress and live healthier, then do your life a favor and embrace this book with passion.
She makes a difficult, and to most, boring subject, anatomy and physiology, easy to read and understand. If only the textbook I had to use in A&P when I went to nursing school were this easy and quick to read and understand. She makes the subject interesting rather than dry and impersonal. She covers the digestive system, hormones, nutrients and enzymes involved in how our body utilizes or is impaired by the foods we eat and don't eat.
She further gives us all the information needed to make the changes we need to make and methods on how to achieve this goal. At the end of each section she gives thoughts to take away and take action on. Deidre Edwards gives us the tools we need to take control of our health through proper mental attitude and what foods to eat and what foods to avoid as well as much needed exercise. She provides us with the research and resources we need to dig deeper into taking control of our health and wellness.
The book includes a general diet plan for each meal. We are given several recipes to get on the right track for the nutrition we need. Deidre debunks the popular, incorrect and outdated food pyramid and Standard American Diet, SAD. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take action and fix our common health issues.
As the book progresses, Ms. Edwards moves to the more technical components of how the body works but does so in a digestible manner. Boy do I wish I learned this information earlier in my life. For the first time, I understood the function of my intestines and the signs I can look for to gain a better sense of how well I am. By the end of the book, Ms. Edwards shows simple yet powerful ways an "anti-inflammatory" diet can provide optimum health, plus she shares some really tasty looking recipes to get the reader started on their journey.
Ms. Edwards made me sit up and take notice of my dietary habits and wellness mindsets. After reading her book, I'm going to remember to breathe and drink water and eat better using the tips she provided. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in feeling the best they can.
