This chisel is not machined or finished as nicely as my original Marples BlueChip and I do not expect it to perform as well. The handle shape is a big disappointment as I was very fond of the rounded rectangular handle cross section.
Unfortunately the chisel has been redesigned, and for some reason the manufacturer has kept the old part numbers.
I'm at a loss as to how to know which chisel style you will receive.
I didn't like the new style, it tapers from the mallet end to the blade. This design is OK if you only strike your chisels but is difficult to hold if you try paring cuts. Your hands slip toward the blade, you can't hold it tight enough.
If the handle style makes a difference, you might have to contact the seller and confirm just what style you will receive.
My solution was to buy a Marples 4 chisel set, they were of the old style handle. These chisels came sharp enough for most work but I added a quick hone and flatten the backs before use.
I like the Marple chisels, as shown.
After using this tool some more, I wish the handle had a flat side to keep it from rolling off the table or project. Otherwise it's a VERY nice chisel for the price. Sharpens up nicely and is pretty well machined from the get go. Not to much effort to get a nicely polished back and bevel.

Irwin/Marples chisels are a good semi-pro level of chisel. They are a good step up from the cheapest home-center chisels. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Arrow Flyer
Used it about 6 times and the tip broke off. And I was using it properly too.Published 2 months ago by Amazon Customer
Mine came with a blunt tip. I really was not expecting such a dull tool. Poor workmanship. Makes me wonder it it will hold an edge.Published 3 months ago by Len
I'm disappointed. Approximately ten years ago I owned a set of these Marples chisels which looked exactly as the one shown here (the one with the smooth, long blue handle). Read morePublished 4 months ago by Amazon Customer
