The design is the same but the manufacturing is not. I have three of there same 11R regular tip vice grips that are old and made in USA.I bought these and they are made overseas and right out of the box the adjustment screw turn like crap. I applied some grease to the threads and they still stick and turn very hard. To me it seem like the threading machine was off by a few thousands and that was OK for there quality. I will not buy again and will look for other manufactures and give them a try.
Outsourcing is great for america and quality products

I recently bought two of these for my work. After a couple weeks' use, I have noticed they are not holding up well, the handles are misaligned, and the adjustment screws are not as easy to turn as they should be. Suspicious, I compared them to the same model of clamp I bought from Lowe's about 4 years ago. Either these newer (but inferior) clamps were manufactured in a different country, or they are complete knockoffs. The "11R" stamp is shallow and muddled (not crisp like a my older quality-made Irwin clamp), the finish is different (and in my line of work, welding, these have picked up A LOT of bb's, whereas the old clamp has NONE.) Also, the handles do not line up with the jaws. I hope Irwin has not switched manufacturers, because if they have, it may be time to find a different brand that cares more about quality. You sometimes hear about companies "cheapening" certain items to sell to big-box stores for cheap, and this may also be the case. I will look at the 11R's next time I'm at a hardware store to see what I find. I usually trust Amazon and Irwin, but for this item it may be best to go somewhere to touch before buying.

Irwin makes another great product. This clamp is well built, strong and easy to release. Holds my product where it needs to be without budging. I have 8 of these and can always use more. Great product and recommend!

These are not made in the USA anymore and it shows. The finish is rougher than my old USA built vise grips of identical part number. The operation is not as smooth either. I'll buy used original ones from ebay before I give Irwin any more business.

I have use Vise Grip brand since about 1983 and have always loved the product. I am a welder by trade and use these tools everyday all day. I don't know when Irwin took over and maybe they have always had it but there name appears on the product now where I don't remember it being on there in years past. Never liked other brands especially cheap ones from where ever.
I don't know when materials changed but they are not the same. Every once in a while weld splatter might stick on the clamps. Rarely unless you were welding right next to the tips. Now just being within inches splatter sticks like a b...h. Also about the only gripe that I can remember about the old days is once in a while you would lose a spring and either dealt with it or buy additional springs. The rivets that hold the cross bar break.
I will be looking for another brand. They maybe more expensive I don't know.

I use these 11R Vise-Grip adjustable C- clamp pliers all the time for welding and brazing. They have a 4" capacity, but I find that I use them most often for clamping metal plate, angle iron and things in the range of 1" to 3" in thickness. I prefer this locking clamp over the similar 11SP type with the swivel pads, since I can get these into tighter places or even up close to the weld point if needed for more precise parts alignment without interfering with the line of sight for the weld bead. I do use the other 11SP C-clamps with the swivel pads for things like my Kreg jig and as a clamp for glue up on small wood projects, but these 11R clamps are my go-to clamps for metal work because I find they will pinch parts together very securely. I've actually used them for a ground clamp attachment point when MIG welding on occasion. Overall, I think these 11R locking clamps work well and would definitely recommend them to anyone that welds often.

This is the best tool for tempory clamping of items to be welded drilled,or bonded up to 5" across clamped area.
...I would like to find spring kits for my six pair I use all the time at my work I have not been able to find a dealer in Phoenix who carries the springs. Any help welcome.
Thank you,

Use them all the time. Put them under extreme pressure. Must have for a metal worker And this model is generally better than the ones with the swivel clamps. They always break off.
