Taste the culinary power on the seventh season of the No. 1 food show on cable, Bravo's Emmy® and James Beard Award-winning series TOP CHEF: D.C. The 17 new chef'testants come face to face in the nation's capitol for the ultimate power play that will determine just who has the chops to become TOP CHEF.

This season captures the varied tastes of Washington D.C. and features appearances by some of the town's top names in politics, aerospace, and even the CIA. The challenges are some of the most creative and inventive yet as the chefs take over the concession stands at the Nationals stadium, go inside the CIA's closely guarded headquarters, and literally receive out of this world direction from a NASA astronaut orbiting Earth.

Returning to the kitchen, author, actress and host Padma Lakshmi presides over the judge's table alongside head judge Tom Colicchio, James Beard Award-winner and chef/owner of Craft Restaurants, and judge Gail Simmons of Food & Wine magazine. Joining the series as a regular guest judge is award-winning chef Eric Ripert. I'm sorry, I really need to intervene here. I have become a big fan of the show and the reviews thus far do not reflect (in my opinion) what this season was about. I admit that season 6 was more enjoyable, people were friendlier to each other, and the Voltaggio bros. stole the show. But this season was very good; I think that there was much more of a balance between individual talents and this is an asset since it keeps the suspense going. People had more of a subtle humor to them (Ed and Angelo were quite sarcastic with each other, yet not in an offensive manner). The finale in Singapore was very interesting to watch (in particular Padma's reaction to Ed's banana fritters when she takes the first bite). Yes, people were meaner to each other in general, I will agree with that. I do also try hard to understand where they are coming from; in competitive fields, you do have to become your biggest cheerleader, and narcissism is a shield which, when stripped, unveils tremendous insecurity. I think people need to try to come across as larger than life because they're terrified of their own low self-esteem. People are people, in the end, and suffering is something universal, thus I would hope empathy for the tense situation these chefs were in would seep through somewhere along the way.

I just purchased the streaming version of Season 7 and 9 in HD and the quality IS NOT HD.
It's worse than SD, standard definition almost. The DVDs are the same price and at least
you actually get something and the quality should be better. You can stop it, start it, keep
track in the chapters and titles and instantly skip ahead or back. The option to buy it in SD
for $24.99 or HD for $29.99 is misleading because the quality is bad in both and not even
DVD or broadcast HD quality.

I admit that this past Tuesday (November 10)I purchased episode 1 of Season 7 Top Chef-House of Chef-presentatives as a subconscious way to see if I would want to eventually buy the rest of the season (which yes I would). The first reason; I was curious as to how A cooking competition would go within the D.C. area. First off, there are various contestants representing various walks of life. For instance, there is a contestant who is married with two twins at home, another is a popular chef in the Atlanta Georgia area and was even voted in the Top 25 of chefs, another chef had their first cooking experience around the age of 3 with eggs, another mentioned about being an instructor with the Culinary Institute of America, one contestant caters for a living, and another Top Chef D.C. contestant mentioned about owning three restaurants within the D.C. area (of course there Are more goal-oriented chefs featured in this episode). Another feature that makes me want to eventually purchase A dvd set of season 7 top chef And/or the whole season; There is the potential of the winner being in Food & Wine magazine, and the winner gets to receive $20,000 dollars. The chefs are tasked with preparing for a kickoff party for the Cherry Blossom festival that is mentioned about including several Accomplished Washingtonians. Some of the ingredients in one of the challenges; 10 potatoes, 10 cups of onions, And 4 chickens. One of the cooking events takes place At the Andrew Mellon Auditorium. The contestants were given 300 dollars to shop At Whole Foods and 4 hours to prep in the G.E. Monogram Top Chef Kitchen.

I really enjoy this show! This season is abit disappointing after a super impressive season 6. However the challenges are crazy , the guest judges are impressive and the personalities of the chefs are more fun I would say. Worth a watch :)

I love all the Top Chef shows but there sure was a lot of fighting in this one. It was a litte back handed to not give the english words for the possible ingredients in the first cookoff in China. Just showing the printed Chinese word doesn't help the viewer know what the ingredients are. And the chef had to guess.

Sort of lackluster after the stellar Season 6, but enjoyable in its own way.

I loathed Angelo Sosa in this season, but it must be all about the editing, because I was rooting for him on All-Stars. Despite how much I disliked him, all the other chefs seemed fond of him. He seemed so much more humble and kind in All-Stars.

This is one of my favorite finals. I like that it brought former Top Chef winners back. Ed Cotton was a front-runner, and I don't know what happened. It seemed it was really Angelo Sosa and Kevin Sbraga's show, and Kevin - who was so inconsistent throughout most of the season, came to Singapore confident and creative. It can be about nerves.

I did enjoy most of the challenges, but it terms of talent and with a few exceptions, I thought this was one of the more mediocre seasons.

I am an avid Top Chef fan and have enjoyed the opportunity to re-watch DVD episodes. Unfortunately the finale of season 7 has been edited from the original broadcasted version, which was sorely disappointing. The contestants shopping for spices, fishing for prawn, jokes in the hotel room prior to the elimination challenge, and kitchen scenes during elimination challenge have been cut. On a positive note, the DVD contains behind the scenes extras and includes the reunion special. Another thing noticed with the last few seasons released to DVD is the fan favorite announcement is not included as this has been aired on "Watch What Happens Live" versus the Top Chef Reunion show as in season's past.
