Top Customer Reviews
I currently have a set of German knives with a Chef's knife that is more expensive than this entire set. So, my purchase was not a necessity, but more of a curiosity as to the quality of knives that carried the name of this TV series. Over the last month, I have been happily using these knives and they are great. For me, they are well balanced and easy to keep extremely sharp with the brief use of the sharpening steel before use. They are just delightful to use.
The shears work fine but I kept my other pair because these cannot be disassembled for cleaning. This is not a negative but my preference.
Besides a knife block, the following equipment is provided.
6'' filet knife
8'' chef knife
8'' bread knife
3-1/2'' paring knife
IMO, the quality of the product would be an excellent deal at twice the price.
Now for the knives, because of my last set I am already in the habit of rinsing and wiping dry after each use so I have no issues with rusting as I saw in a couple reviews, mine came very sharp and seem to be holding the edge reasonably well, like a lot of good knives it does not hurt to hit it with a few swipes on the sharpening stick, again force of habit, I have been still doing that every few uses/
The knives have a good feel, not too heavy and certainly not cheesy feeling (think Ginsu) I would put them just one notch down from my older Cutco knives in feel. The lengths and types are just right, nice serrated blade for bread and such, 2 butcher style, one with the little indents that I assume are so potatoes and things like it don't stick to the blade, and it sort of works, the other is a smooth blade, classic butcher style.
I think the price / performance is perfect on these, not too expensive in cost and not too cheap in the product, I would recommend these to a friend.
Look nice. Seem to be good quality. I'm not crazy about the shape of the handles. I'm sure I'll get use to them after a while and they will turn out to be as comfortable as others. Best feature for me is the small footprint on the counter. The wood block looks just fine. If the label falls off - as others have complained - even better. I never thought I would use all of them, but I do - even the short one. They're actually for my wife - she does most of the cooking. She liked them so well, she gave me a kiss. I got a good deal!
Like others, I was trying to decide between several of the roughly hundred dollar sets. The reviews of Top Chef by others swayed me, and I am glad I read them. We have had the knives for almost 2 months, and while that is not long enough to know how they will fare in the long haul, it is enough to state that my wife is very pleased with them. They are heavier than the Sams Cutlery that they replaced, and the tang is sold and substantial.
This particular set has a good mix of knives. We really had no need for a set that included 6 steak knives, and so it made this set a good option. Our counterspace is somewhat limited, so the relatively compact block still fits on the counter without feeling cramped. The scissors are a nice addition, but they do not come apart for cleaning. To me, the scissors don't seem to match the quality of the rest of the set, but that is a small item. The knives are excellent. I will update this review as time goes by to see how they hold up.
