The Anuka Smoker is designed to ensure a temperature of 370°F to facilitate safe cooking. It is not intended to be used for "preserving", which is accomplished by the cold smoking method. As in all food preparation, the fresher the better. Smoking is not a magic process that will restore life and vitality to your food. Always use and prepare fresh food using normal hygienic practices.

I have cooked thinner chicken breasts and fish fillets and hamburger patties - all with amazing results - well within the one hour time period, but not quite as quickly as indicated in the recipe book, particularly when it was cooler outside.
NOTE of CAUTION: For larger and thicker cuts of meat, such as whole chickens or very thick chicken breasts or even short ribs, the recipe book states - and I had to do this, as well - that you will either have to start the entrée or finish it in a standard oven to get to safe internal temperatures. I decided to stick with thinner cuts, so as to avoid this extra step.
This limitation might be a deal-breaker for many, but, for our family, it made no difference. We were seeking a quick, high flavor smoker, that would do certain cuts: skinless chicken breasts that were boned, hamburger patties, and fish fillets.
And this product generated such amazing smokey, intense flavor, and was such a hit, that we used it almost nightly for the next week.
ADVICE: Even though the instruction book states not to use metal pans or aluminum foil trays that more or less cover each shelf of the cooker, we did exactly that and did not notice any reduction in the circulation of smoke flavor. This advice was due to a concern that wide trays or foil would inhibit smoke penetration into the meats. We did not find this to be true and the advantage of an easy cleanup of the wire grills was huge. The nonstick bottom drip pan cleans up incredibly fast. Do, as well, put foil into the wood chip receptacle, so cleanup is fast there, too.
All in all, a very nice product. Since it is flameless and electric, I also noted that it did not violate any of my neighborhood or local ordinances regarding fire hazards due to charcoal, wood, propane, or natural gas cookers near homes. I kept a prudent, reasonable distance, of course, but did not have to move my smoker out to the "back forty!"
HINT: If you don't want your clothes to smell like delicious smoke, keep your distance during the cooking process. The smoker generates LOTS of smoke for the first half hour!
Thus, one container, like the directions say, but finishing cooking in the oven, except perhaps fish, is the way to go.
The storage cover is very good. There may be units more advanced, with temp controls, this one has none but works just the same. Clean-up is easy and has to be done outdoors or the underside of the lid alone will give a delightful smokey aspect to any home.
I say..buy one...good gift item, easy to use, well built, reliable...and more useful to a professional than expected.
I was so surprised when I did a search for this again a couple of weeks ago to find the product at all, much less this INCREDIBLE buy!
Every other place has the 'new' silver version and costs $199-$265. The blue one was what I saw on QVC.
I ordered it immediately. It arrived quickly. Last night I did my first 'smoke'. I had some bone-in chicken breasts and put 3 large and 2 smaller breasts on 1 rack. I used 1 1/2 'scoops' of my red oak wood chips. I set the timer for an hour, even the the manual/recipe book (very good) said I only needed 50 minutes, I tend to like things more 'done'. They came out beautiful with a great smoke flavor as if done in my large smoker. My temp probe died, so I couldn't check the temp. I'll order a new and then there won't be any questions. I can't wait to do hamburgers, sausage, asparagus, mac n cheese and more!
So simple, easy to use. Clean up a breeze. I threw the rack in the dishwasher and it came out great.
Order it while you can at this great price.
I only wish I could have used it indoors, but it's not recommended. It does start to 'vent' smoke within 5 minutes.
I have returned the Anuka to the seller for a refund, which cost me $22.18. I hope I am refunded the cost of returning it.
