I'm a professor of rhetoric and writing at The University of Texas at Austin. There, I study workplaces and how people circulate information through them. My first book, Tracing Genres through Organizations, was published by MIT Press in 2003 and was named NCTE's 2004 Best Book in Technical or Scientific Communication. My second book, Network, was published in 2008 by Cambridge University Press.

Spinuzzi's interests include research methods and methodology, workplace research, and computer-mediated activity. Topsight is my favorite book. Hands down. Spinuzzi shares valuable tools and heuristics for conducting a workplace ethnography (or any type of research, really). The book is very clear and is written in an easy-to-understand yet analytical way. Its content is well organized and it was very pleasant to read and apply. This is a great book for anyone interested in doing research or surveys, the entire book is filled with diagrams that help to organize and analyze data. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in conducting research. The book speaks to a wide variety of audiences; whether you are a consultant looking for opportunities to improve workplace processes, or you are surveying a neighborhood with questions about an upcoming election, Topsight is a terrific resource.
