Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Taking "a look inside" is the only way of really appreciating what I tried to accomplish with The Torah: Portion-by-Portion. After many years of teaching Bible to adults and young adults, and through the six years of writing and editing, I tried to keep a close awareness of the fact that the Five Books of Moses are both sacred and scholarly territory -- that the work of archaeologists and academics should be set side-by-side with traditional insights to complement one another. Graphs and charts, illustrations and photographs - rarely found in Bible commentaries - bring the text alive and make it more immediately accessible. It's the book I wish I had when I was first studying Bible.

This book was written for 'us jews'. I am not a Jew but I am very much interested in judaism and Kabbalah. The Kabbalah (Zohar) encourages everybody to study the Torah on a every day basis. Why? Because studying the Torah constantly will reveal insights and wisdom bit by bit.
To help the layman uncovering this ancient treasure of wisdom the author, Rabbi Seymour Rossel, teaches the Torah 'portion by portion'. His portions cover the five books of the Old Testament (Pentateuch) and are very well readable. Besides he provides related historical and archeological info.
My conclusion: a very fine book which I enjoyed and read cover to cover in no time. The book can be highly recommended, given the fact that you are interested in jewry. This because jewry an the Torah are One.

I don't know a lot about the Jewish religion. The first 5 books of the Bible deserve some serious study...especially Genesis. It was not what I hoped it would be. But, I'm not sure what I was hoping for...if that makes any sense.
