10/19, Kaua`i tropical island. Kelly Waterson (Jay’s GF) told Detective Leilani “Lei” Texeira (Kaua`I PD, #2367) she wanted to file a MP case on Jay Bennett (27).
The 2 of them were from Clovis, CA.
He was supposed to have been camping at a park called Pine Trees (Hanalei).
Jay’s stuff was in a trash container.
Detective Jack Jenkins (Lei’s partner, Kaua`I PD) had just arrived.

1st stop Pine Trees, then Paradise Realty office (Kilauea).
Ms. Lehua Wolcott met with Detective Texeira.
In 2005, Kassie Feldman, Peter Krakouwer, Neil Powers, Grey Smith, John Samson, Tracy Enders, Brize Calloway, Susan Herzog, & Hal Bloom were missing also.
Waikapala`e Cave. Detective Texeira, & Alika Wolcott were exploring.
They had found some remains & took them to Becky “Becks” Banks.
Becky, & Detective Stevens (Kaua`i PD) arrived & the 4 of them dove down to the Blue Room.
What were the Timekeeper, & Jay discussing?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written crime mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great crime mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Torch Ginger ISBN 9780983952442, e-book by Toby Neal is one of a series of Lei Crime Novels and set in the Hawaiian Island of Kauai.
Leilani Texeira, a detective recently transferred to the island police force, is initiating an investigation into a recent vacation-rental burglary when a young lady appears. She reports that her boyfriend has been missing for weeks after he decided to require time to decide about their relationship and wandered off into the back country. Lei and her partner, Jack Jenkins, begin a search for the boy while also starting the burglary case. They discover a relationship among these two matters, a number of missing persons in the same area over an extended period of time, existence of illegal meth production and distribution, a series of murders, suspicion of cult-like activity in the murders, and possible sinister involvement of a wandering cult of `free-spirits', along with inexplicable actions of some important Island dwellers. Because of the extensiveness of the intertwining elements, a senior detective is called in from the Big Island and, finally, the FBI. Lei has a history with the senior detective, as well as a heavy psychological load as a result of early years of being molested, both of which add another element to the action.
The plot is interesting, the setting a little different, the story moves well and the action is credible. Basically, an interesting read. Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non/fiction author.

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I tend to read a great deal - a book a day for sure - and I am quick to dump a book if it doesn't hold my interest. This series definitely holds my interest. I would recommend this to lovers of crime fiction.

This is the second in a series of crime novels set on the island of Hawaii. Lei is a female detective recovering from a love affair that happened in the first book (must get a copy!). She helps to crack a weird cult that deals in human sacrifice and artificial drugs. It's a gripping read, which I thoroughly recommend - after you've read 'Blood Orchids' which starts the series.
The characters are believable and well described - and as for the island - I wish I could visit it!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 17, 2013
As with her previous book (Blood Orchid), Toby Neal demonstrates her talent in weaving together all the elements of a good crime novel. Realistic characters who's lives develop through the story. An exotic and vividly described background. A developing sense of mystery, well paced writing, increasing tension, solid and realistic police procedure, explosive action. Interestingly, this story also brought in some subtle but relevant spiritual elements. All of which add up to a very good bit of story telling!

This is the second book of the series and like the first, it contains fast paced action and drama. Lei, the main character is a newly promoted police detective, recently transferred to Halaua'i police dept in Hawaii. She is struggling with the aftermath of a romantic break-up and post traumatic stress related to abuse in her childhood. A young woman comes to Hawaii looking for her boyfriend and reports him as missing, this awakens Lei to the realisation that there is a series of related missing persons on the island.
