I grew up watching the Inn of the Sixth Happiness and reading books on Gladys Aylward, so I came to this video knowing the story quite well.
I was very impressed by the attention to historical and spiritual detail conveyed in this film, and enjoyed the way they mixed the present (helping the kids across China) with the past (how Gladys got to China).
The animation is superb and sure to capture the attention of young and old alike.
My three year old daughter loves this movie. When she begs me to "see that China one, Mommy, see that China one" I am only too happy to do so. Highly recommended!
My oldest child had just watched The Inn of the Sixth Happiness with me on Netflix and then we saw this listed. My oldest started excitedly telling Gladys' story to my youngest and then they both begged me to rent this. So glad I did!! If you want a good quality cartoon that actually teaches (history, having faith in God, and the qualities of both compassion & perseverance) then this is the right movie for you!
After reading the story of Gladys Aylward by Janet and Geoff Benge, my children and I were delighted to watch this animation of her story. I was pleased that the movie followed the events of her missionary life pretty closely. HOWEVER, the movie for rent on Amazon has TITLES IN SPANISH! At first I thought I made a mistake and ordered the Spanish version, but all the talking was in English, so we could at least understand what was being said. It would have been nice to know that all the writing would be in a different language. Therefore, I gave it 3 stars.
I was looking for a good, short, dvd to encourage my Sunday School children to trust our mighty God and this certainly does that. I have watched other Torchlighters productions and they all are very well made and true to actual history of great Christians.
