This is the story of Sawyer and Abbey, who are both broken souls, who are fighting their inner demons, and tormented by their pasts. This is a touching as well as heartbreaking plot when it is revealed what they have both had to endure since childhood. They are perfect together, as they embrace their inner demons!
This can be read as a standalone, but personally I would have liked to have read the previous two books first. Max has written an intriguing and captivating story, and I look forward to getting stuck into the rest of her work!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
I knew Sawyer was messed up, I knew this was going to be one hell of a ride but this was so much more than I expected.
I wondered as I read how it would end, would he end up dead because there's no way he's going to be magically fixed.
The devil inside won't be silenced, he takes the reader on a slippery slope, sliding down into the dark and dirty depths of his mind, a place with no remorse.
As much as you may want to dislike Sawyer you won't be able to. By the time you see what's deep inside him your already so invested you can't fault him, you can't turn your back no matter what he reveals.
Abbey was messed up from childhood and no matter how much she wants Sawyer everyone thinks he's the worst possible person for her. They treat her like a second class citizen basically, thinking she's beyond messed up and will never be normal.
But what if that person who's just as messed up if not more is just what the other needs?
Sawyer want's to help Abbey, but he also wants her. He has some deeper needs that are brought out by her, ones that only she can fulfill. While we see the darkest of him we also see the a part of Sawyer he didn't realize existed.
Their story is not fairy tale, if it is it's a dark, depraved, twisted tale.
And the end, that very last page broke me, I was right there with Sawyer ready to ball.
Way to wrap up one hell of a journey!!
So many times I had tears in my eyes for both these characters, the way this story is written you feel all their emotions, trauma, uncontrollable urges and fears. I kept highlighting beautiful paragraphs as I read Tormented, I had to stop, take a deep breath and hope that these two broken souls were going to repair each other.
Sawyer and Abbey-girl take us on a an incredible journey, I simply could not put this down. It is dark, gritty and gruesome in parts but that is their story. We get flashbacks for Abbey's history which is not easy to read but explains her trauma and despair.
I loved following Sawyer's second voice, how they reasoned with each other and my god the redemption with Evan for Abbey-girl - brilliant! Cannot believe the links in their history and Fingers was an endearing man and just the way he was with Abbey made me happy for her to have that.
Tormented flowed well and the ending was perfect - Abbey deserved that as did Sawyer. I do have so many questions now and am looking forward to the next few Fallen Aces stories. I need to know want happens to Grace and Mack.
Quote: I want your jagged edges to match mine. I want to combine our dark and ugly hearts into something unbreakable
