Tornado Valley isn't a disaster film as much as it is a study of trauma and relationships. So if you leave your expectations of action at the door, you'll enjoy this made-for-TV movie more.

The film was shot in scenic British Columbia, Canada, primarily with a cast of actors experienced in television work. While the acting was better than I would expect, the extremely beautiful Christine Chatelain gives a standout performance as Helen (which she's oddly uncredited for).

For only having a handful of movies under his belt, I thought Canadian director Andrew C. Erin did a good job with the film. The CGI effects for the tornadoes are low quality, though the set design otherwise makes up for it. Kevin Blumenfeld did a terrific job with the score, which has a real "American Beauty" feel to it.

Considering this movie was made for television, don't expect extravagant special effects; you're only getting two big twisters throughout the entire film. There's no pulse-pounding tension throughout the film, it's essentially a well-acted drama that's framed with two major twisters. I enjoyed it: Four stars as far as TV movies go, three stars if comparing it to blockbusters like Twister.

It was OK but not what I was expecting for. The acting was OK. It is a story of a little girl who watches her mother get caught up in a tornado and is traumatized and doesn't speak again until later when it all happens again and she saves her niece. The older sister becomes a professional storm tracker. The story is good. Hope you enjoy it.

I loved this movie, it was very interesting with the tornadoes. very different from the movie twister, in that movie everything happened for real, now its called wahita, instead of wakita. Of course in oklahoma, they are going to get very nasty tornadic weather. Im surprised that they didn't have any tornado warning where they were, and I was surprised that they didnt have any storm shelters to take cover. I would of been very scared if I saw a tornado. I would of taken cover immediatley.

I just watched this movie, and had some pretty well known actors in it, and was very realistic. I really loved this movie and sure kept me on the edge of my seat, even some parts that got you all I can watch this part up. Very realistic and not B rated at all. The whole time kept you watching never a dual moment and you just kept on watching it to see what happens next. This is by far my favorite tornado movie,

Wellllllll....where do I begin....this movie was so weak I told my kids if they ever have to be punished again - it will be by sitting through this abomination...weak plot, weak cast, tornadoes that appear in one second in one shape/form ONLY and soundlessly disappear without doing any damage!! It's a miracle - that ANYONE would watch this movie !!!!! Yuck!!!!!!!!!

I'm a huge disaster movie freak and hadn't seen this one. It is an okay move, worth the price. I probably wouldn't have paid more for it though. The plot is good, but the acting is a little weak. No real recognizable actors, but still not too bad. Worth adding to your disaster movie collection.

I really was impressed with the family's patience with Ellie for so many years after a horrible tragedy. It really shows the love and triumph of a good family. I am glad that I purchased this movie to watch again, and to share with my family and friends when they visit.

I first saw this movie on the Hallmark Channel titled Storm in the Heartland and liked it. It has a cast of very good and likeable actors. I have watched it many times because of this and the good tornado scenes. I'm sure the budget for this movie couldn't compare to the action scenes of Twister but the action was realistic and exciting to watch. I like the relationships and the character development in this movie also, especially the relationships between Becca (Meridith Monroe's daughter) and Ellie (Meredith's sister,) and the way the relationship grew between Meredith and her father. I should mention a bit about the storyline, the movie starts out with a tornado hitting the farm of Meridith (Liz) and Ellie as children and they lose their mother, then the movie goes to 25 years later and Liz has become a renouned climatalogist and Ellie has been profoundly traumatized by seeing her mother at about 5 years old being swept up in a tornado...You'll enjoy this movie, especially good for a natural disaster...
