This was a book that I really wasn't affected by the cheating. I completely understood where Brie was coming from for large parts of the story, particularly her college years. I've been in her exact same shoes in my youth and think back now cringing at some of the decisions I made because the heart wants what the heart wants. I rooted for her wholeheartedly in the present to finally find peace in her heart and to get the happy ending that has been out of her reach for way too long.
Callie does an amazing job of taking us into Brie's thoughts and emotions. I could feel everything she was experiencing. The highs and lows of the rollercoaster she was trapped on. There were plenty of times I wanted to reach into the book and strangle those around her for the lies, the secrets, the miscommunications that she had to endure. Actually, the three people closest to her were the three I wanted to get her far, far away from.
Nate never won me over. His decisions all throughout this book, all the way back to the first crucial decision he has to make in college, made me want to choke him. I think my problem is I am too much of a realist, and yes, I understand I'm reading a fiction story, but his very first decision just made me shake my head. His reasoning for why he chose who he chose was way too weak in my opinion. But then again, if he hadn't made that decision, we wouldn't have had much of a book to read. Here was the part where I changed the whole story in my head and Nate made different decisions, as did Brie, and completely different circumstances happened that cause the angst and heartbreak in the book.
Another issue I encountered in the book were the amount of editing errors all throughout. I noticed some here and there but the closer I got to the end of the book, the more errors I came across. When there's just a few I don't mind but when they start becoming numerous I get distracted by them and start focusing too much attention on them and not the story.
I feel like I've turned this into a negative review and that is certainly not my intention. I am impressed with Callie's writing, she laid out a very complex story that ran me through the whole gamut of emotions. I will definitely be looking up her other books that have also been highly recommended by my friends and I look forward to her future works.
This book started with a bang with the Prologue and I was hooked from the 1st page. I couldn't read it fast enough to find out how Brie came to be in the situation we find her in those first few pages. How does your best friend end up marrying the love of your life and you his brother. I had to know!
The first 50% was gripping and I loved how the story was unfolding. I personally would call this book more of a 2nd chance romance than a book about cheating because Nate and Brie would never have found themselves in the situation if the things that transpired weren't driven by a lie and miscommunication.
I loved Brie, her deep sense of loyalty and duty, but sadly her good nature and expectation that her friends and family would love and treat her in the same were the cause of her greatest heartache and drove the decisions she made that changed the course of her life.
I loved Nate just as much as Brie. They were very similar in their values and beliefs and despite finding out the truth much sooner than Brie that sense of loyalty and duty stopped him from being true to himself and pursuing his own happiness with her.
For 10 years this lie kept them apart and living in different cities. Desperate circumstances made their paths cross again and this was the trigger for the inevitable end of the life the 4 of them had been living up until then. I had no idea how it would all unravel and wow was I shocked but it was really great.
The epilogue contained a pleasant surprise for the reader and that too was really well done by the author.
This should have been a 5 star read for me but I felt the reason driving why Brie and Nate were kept apart for 10 years was not strong enough, hence the 4 stars.
Congratulations Ms Anderson on a wonderful fast paced story and I will now be reading your other books and looking forward to what you release next.
This is the first book I read from this author and she made me read a book I am not necessarily a fan off (cheating). The blurb was well written that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dive into this messy as hell read.
After hours of reading when I should have been sleeping for my 12 hours night shift. Instead I found myself frantically reading like putting down my kindle would have made me miss out on the story (why do I always do this lol).
Seriously guys, how could I have read this blurb and not be drawn to the story of Nate and Brielle. I couldn’t stay away from this story even if I wanted too.
This book had my heart racing. When Nate and Brielle couldn't be together because of so many factors around them it was heart breaking. I kept rooting for them even though the circumstances weren’t necessarily healthy. I love forbidden love. I love love in general and this story has all kinds of love, attraction, lust, mystery and took me on a ride that I may need a few days to come down from.
Torrid Affair was told from both Nate’s and Brielle’s point of view. I love getting to know both characters and slowing but surely falling in love with each of them. Despite the mistakes that were made between the pair the emotions behind their feelings seemed so real.
Overall, an interesting read. A story full of ups and downs, love, secrets and undying love. If you do not like cheating this might not be for you.
