Torrid Little Affair is the third book in Kendall Ryan’s Forbidden Desires series. It is the only book, thus far, that can be read as a standalone, but Cooper is a major player in the first two books so reading them would be beneficial to understanding the place he’s in when this book begins. Torrid Little Affair is told in first person – from both Corinne and Copper’s point of views.
I was a little surprised by how quickly this story moved. Ms. Ryan hit the ground running with Cooper’s story and kept up that fast pace until the end. I particularly enjoyed how effortlessly Cooper and Corinne’s arrangement evolved into something they both needed but didn’t think they were ready for in any way. The way they were able to open up to one another and trust each other with most of the broken parts of themselves was lovely, as it seemed like they both needed someone to be wholly invested in them with no expectations.
The only wish I have for Torrid Little Affair is that it had delved farther into Corinne’s past and rehashed Cooper’s a little more for the readers who hadn’t read the first books and for those of us who maybe didn’t have total recall of all he’d been through. I felt as if there was a significant build-up to a few major events that had colored Corinne’s timidity and fears, but the traumas she’d experienced didn’t seem to mesh with what was hinted at.
I’m in love with this world Kendall Ryan has constructed in her Forbidden Desires series. All of the brothers captivate me, and I can’t wait to find out more about them. While Cooper’s story didn’t hit me as hard as Gavin’s did, I still loved getting to see him find happiness and his own true love. I can’t wait for Quinn’s story; he’s been a bit of an outlier in the first three books and that air of mystery that surrounds him has me fully intrigued.
Love triangles aren’t exactly my favorite, but Kendall Ryan did a phenomenal job with the one she created in Dirty Little Promise and Dirty Little Secret. Despite his difficult childhood, Cooper really is a good guy. He’s sweet, romantic and he was so good to Emma, even as it pained him to be there for her while she was falling for his brother. He knew going into that situation that he was going to get his heart broken, and that portion of Cooper’s story leaves off with him heading out of town to lick his wounds.
Torrid Little Affair picks back up six months later when Cooper’s brothers summon him back to work. I’d like to say that Corinne and Cooper had a sweet little meet cute, but this is no workplace romcom. What these two did have, though, was some seriously sizzling chemistry. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, right off the bat, they just clicked. A bombshell beauty, Corinne seemed to lack confidence and experience with men, something that Cooper seemed to pick up on right away. He makes her a very unconventional offer, after carefully considering his proposal, she takes him up on it.
These two were so sync that there was no fighting the pull even though Corinne tried. It was obvious that she was holding back, but Cooper didn’t know why. When her secret finally is revealed, Cooper can either allow himself to once again be the man left broken hearted, or he can instead become the man with a plan. Cooper’s determination to make this relationship work was endearing and as admirable as Corinne’s loyalty in her situation.
Not quite as intense as the first two books in the series, Torrid Little Affair was emotional and sexy and a fantastic addition to this incredible series. I loved Cooper and Corinne, I loved their story, and I’m very much looking forward to the oldest Kingsley brother, Quinn’s story. Torrid Little Affair by Kendall Ryan gets 4.5 smooches from me!
Cooper Kingsley is definitely the epitome of an alpha man, but he definitely has a huge heart and he wants to love and be loved. That might sound cliche, but after his childhood, you can certainly understand how he wants to love and care for someone.
Corrine has never had it easy, but she's managed to come out the other side and she's looking to give herself some stability and with a new job, she thinks that can happen. Corrine has been hired at Forbidden Desires as Cooper's new assistant by his brothers while he is out of the office. She's looking forward to his first day in the office so they can begin their working relationship. But when he arrives, she realizes she may be in over her head.
Chemistry zings between Cooper and Corrine, but with Cooper's wounded heart and Corrine not wanting to get involved with her boss, among other concerns, will these two give in to what they are feeling? And if they do, will a secret that is being kept derail everything?
I was captivated by this book and I just wanted to keep turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. I really wanted Coop to meet that person who was just for him and in my opinion, Kendall Ryan did just that!
