The slim 7mm thick Trion 150 is significant improvement over the OCZ Trion 100 drive I tried previously. It's a lot faster in both reading and writing and has much better rated endurance. At this price with this kind of performance, why buy a mechanical hard drive as a boot device?

This is the first SSD that I ever tried that exceeded its rated max read speed using CrystalDiskMark benchmark. It flies with SATA command queuing enabled. This is where the drive accepts a series of commands for reads or writes and can optimize their execution. I was surprised how poorly the drive performed without queuing with 4K random writes. Most modern systems use queued commands, so this should not be a problem in most normal use.

To get more of a feel for real-life use I copied an 11GB folder of files to and from the drive This folder contains large files like ISO disk images, photos, installers, and many various large and small files. I use this folder to get a consistent handle on real-world read/write speeds. Writing to the Trion 150 never dropped below 300MB/s which is the best I've seen. Reading off it gave consistent performance in the 400MB/s to 530MB/s. Again, impressive performance for this file mix.

NOTE: Please bear in mind that I'm using the 480GB version of this SSD. Generally speaking larger SSDs seem to perform faster as can be seen in the drive specs.

The Trion 150 uses TLC NAND tech like the Trion 100. In my testing it is surprisingly fast for a TLC drive. TLC NAND is the highest density and least expensive type of NAND for SSD drives. Traditionally it's slower and has less endurance than lower density SLC and MLC NAND. This is not a slow drive.

How long should this economical drive last?

I don't like Toshiba. I don't really know why, but my thing is quality and I just don't picture them being any good at that. That being said, the first SSD I ever bought was a Trion 100. I've bought MANY since from others (Samsung, SanDisk, Crucial, Mushkin to name a few). That 1st SSD and ALL of the other Trions I've bought since have NEVER had the slightest problem. I use them for boot drives, mains and hot swaps without even thinking and they just don't go bad in my case. I've had 2 Samsungs and 1 SanDisk fail completely in less time than I've had most of these, and 1 Crucial show up DOA. I build machines for my income, so if Toshiba makes me comfortable putting my name on it then that's what I'll use. If they take a wrong turn, I'll let y'all know here first!

Really good budget SSD if you're not planning on transferring files much larger than 3.6gb (for the 240gb model, 7.2gb for the 480gb one etc) at a time because of the SLC cache limitations, of which for my gaming usage is, well, almost all of the time.
Also, if you have a motherboard equal to mine (asrock z77 pro 4) be sure to check your SATA ports because the Intel ones are much faster and only by using those you'll have all the performance desired.

Back in Nov 2015 I had a Samsung EVO 850 SSD and it was a great upgrade. Now I have purchased this OCZ SSD for another PC and it's been working very well for the last week. It was cheaper than the Samsung EVO 850 and it delivers the same read ans write speeds.

Excellent drive for the price. Works well, no firmware problems like the Trion 100 series.

Pleese make sure to download the Trion SSD Guru software after installing this drive. This will keep the firmware updated and will allow you to look at the drive's health and tweak some settings like trim and overprovisioning.

I'm an iOS and web developer and have been using SSD's in my laptops and desktops for 9 years.
The first one I bought was $900 and 32GB, but it was still much faster than any hard drive on the planet.

Anyways, I was using a 256 Sandisk Extreme in a Win10 gaming box and needed more space, so I cloned to the Triton 150 480GB with the free version of Macrium Reflect, which worked great. I had tried using EaseUS, but it thought the OCZ had a working partition (even after wiped it with Disk Management) and wouldn't do it.

Macrium reflect worked great, and since it was SSD<->SSD over Sata 3, it didn't take more than 15 minutes.

I was disappointed that the drive did not come with cloning software though - I don't understand why windows doesn't have a simple clone utility in 2016, its such a common task.

After the cloning was through, I had no problems replacing the boot drive, and it booted right up.

Once booted, I ran the OCZ Utility (which you should absolutely install) to change the overprovisioning space - this is the extra space you let the SSD use to avoid filling the disk completely, which can affect performance. In the tool, I realized that most of the unused space on teh drive was overprovisioning space, which made the drive look nearly full.

This is not a problem, because you can change the OP space with a slider in the utility and it takes effect instantly - Windows could then use the rest of the unused space, while I reserved 50GB for overprovisioning (which is generous, I think it should be about 10%, but I can change it later.

The SSD Utility also comes with a benchmarking utility, and when I first ran it, I was disappointed to see it only hitting 305MiB/s reads and 256 MiB writes.
