Price: This is an amazing laptop with a price tag of only $500. I got mine for just $490 last month and I am in love with it. This is literally the best valued laptop available today.

Looks: This laptop has the look of a high-end laptop with 1920 x 1080 resolution, an incredible backlit keyboard, and brushed aluminum finish that no other computers in this price range could offer. Not to mention it weights only 4.5 pounds and is super thin like the MacBook from Apple!

Upgrade: Toshiba says this laptop is not "user-upgradable" (whatever that means), BUT as other reviewers have said, this is indeed upgradable. There are two ram slots in this computer with a 4gb and 2gb factory installed. Both slots were covered by a black plastic thing (not sure if it has any purpose). I simply lifted the plastic up to install the additional RAM. I replaced the 2gb with a 8gb from Crucial with no problem. Now, my laptop has a total of 12gb ram installed, which should be more than enough to handle most tasks.

I also bought a Samsung SSD to replace the HDD on this laptop. I just spent 3 hours, literally 3 hours installing the SSD. After searching for videos and guides to install a SSD on this particular laptop with no helpful result, I decided to try it on my own and take the risks.

First, I removed the back cover and slide out the battery by removing 13 or 14 screws. Then, I pop the cover up. And then I unscrewed a small rectangular board (I think that's what it's called) connecting the two ribbon cables that cover the hard drive on the bottom left corner, right next to the hard drive. I carefully lifted the board up, and there you go, the cables are now detached from the hard drive, which allows you to remove the hard drive finally. And after 15 minutes of attempting to pop the hard drive up, I succeeded. It felt like an accomplishment after hours of efforts. Finally, you just connect the SSD and place it back to where the hard drive was originally located. FINALLY!!!

I have to say, this is the most difficult, frustrating, time consuming, and painful upgrade I have EVER done. Maybe this is why Toshiba says this computer is not user upgradable because it is very very difficult to do so. With the SSD installed, this computer is LIGHTNING FAST.

Battery: It has alright battery life of 4-5 hours for me, which is not exceptional, but definitely acceptable. Again, Toshiba says the battery is not "user-replaceable", BUT it can be removed or replaced easily with two screws on the back.

Performance: FAST FAST FAST!!! It runs really fast and I haven't experienced any problem. For $500, you get the latest Intel i5 processor, I think it is a bargain.

Overall, this is a great valued laptop with excellent performance and the look of a high-end laptop. I couldn't ask for more for the $500 I paid. In fact, I would pay more for this laptop. BUT AGAIN, PAINFUL UPGRADE!!! I was going to rate this a 4-star for difficult upgrade, but again, this is not made for consumer upgrade, so I don't blame Toshiba. I still love this laptop so much, just wished the upgrade process was easier.

I bought this computer used, so the problems I have might not exist on all of them. The touch pad is a bit strange to me. Scrolling with it is not as precise as I am used to. It can get pretty frustrating. I have clicked on many things I didn't mean to because it is overly sensitive to it. I have had several laptops and never had this problem. I might be able to get used to the quarks eventually. Time will tell. The performance of the laptop is decent. It is not a "speedster." It comes with a 4gb memory and a 2gb memory. I replaced the 2gb memory with an 8gb, so now I have 12gb total, that helped some. I don't do anything that requires a lot of processing power so this laptop works fine for me in that respect. The hard drive is large at 750gb, but is an older style mechanical drive, so it is quite possibly the "bottle neck" to the performance of the system. I really like how thin and relatively light the laptop is. The lighted keyboard is great for typing in the dark. The metal top is not "bullet proof." Mine came with a small dent in it and it feels like it would not take much to get more. That being said, I think it is stronger than a plastic top. The screen has good color and brightness. If you are looking for a laptop that is slightly above middle ground then this is a good choice.

The only thing is not good the battery because the laptop doesn’t work if unplugged the battery totally bad and doesn’t take or keep any charge so the laptop just work if plugged

Used Toshiba as main laptops for years. This one is total disappointment. Does not support standard Windows drivers like i found using touchpad. Many, many recoveries as touchpad stopped working. Finally found there was a forum telling only Toshiba driver could be used. Shut off auto updating for Windows and installed only Toshiba drivers and touchpad works. Cannot update Windows but what is the loss.
Cannot pick computer up with one hand under as it shuts it off. Can show it will do it anytime as it is constant. Unit case is so badly designed and manufactured as it will also start bending if unit is in my lap and my palms are resting next to touchpad. Like a sheet of metal it ripples. I left for Philippines two days after receiving unit and have no idea what to do with it while I am here for 8 months. Fragile unit,
TOSHIBA WHAT ARE YOU DOING? QUALITY, MATERIAL WHERE HAS ALL THAT GONE. Just ordered another model and it arrived in America Dead on arrival.
