what I like
1- sound is amazing
2- screen is very bright and vivid colors (contarary to the previous comment, you can actually adjust it)
3- battery lasts 6 hours on ECO
4- boots up very fast. It takes me about 18 seconds to open up the internet browser
5- windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 8 after I boughtit but I could only endure it for 10 or so days. Thanks to Toshiba, they save an image of factory settings on this computer, I could just roll it back with couple button pushes
6- looks very nice
7- you can charge things when the computer is off, you can even use the speakers to play music from external players when the computer is off
8- I like the extra wide screen, you can have couple windows open while working and things are still workable.
9- backlit keyboard
10- wifi connection to an external screen
11- very thin
What I did not like
1-Keyboard felt a little weird in the beginning but I got used to it.
2- all ports are on sides, wish had some in the back like hdmi, it would look better when you attached a second monitor, but you can get around with wifi connection to a secreen if you buy the modem you need for this which is not expensive but you are still exposed to waves
3- battery is internal and I do not know how easy to replace it
4- max supported memory is 10 gb. Wish it was 16 gb
5- 3 usb ports, 1 hdmi. wish it had 5 total
Overall, you are getting a very nice ultrabook for less than 500. I paid less than 500. You cannot beat it. I highly recommend this ultrabook.
The two machines are identical except for the CPU and SSD. The i5 in this model is quite capable as well and you get more storage in the 500 GB HDD. For the price you get an excellent, solid and very well built ultrabook with great performance and a lot of nice features, like three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI out port, the unique 21:9 wide screen display and very nice styling. The is a very attractive ultrabook and for productivity uses, it performs very, very well. The side-by-side windows are a treat for daily tasks and combined with the excellent speakers makes watching videos or listening to music a great experience. The speakers sound very good and are a big plus. Nearly all the comments in my other review apply to this model as well.
Text is clear and easy to read even at the 100% default setting, you can boost to 125% if you like, but even with my old, tired eyes I did not feel the need to do so. Also, one of the nicest looking Ultrabooks (in my opinion) around. Easy to carry and handle, too. Very sleek. The rubberized surfaces are wonderful - every one should copy Toshiba on this aspect.
A top performer (excellent benchmarks) and an excellent value.

Key features i was looking for include:
- Large screen size (Generally prefer 15')
- Light weight
- Slim design notebook
Hardware wise, it had enough memory and speed for most of my daily needs such as streaming movie, emails, word processing. It could have been useful to have an extra USB port as mentioned by another reviewer but not a big issue. Its a great all rounder in my opinion and i could live with the few comprises i made.
Unfortunately within a week of its arrive the motherboard completely failed on my, I talked to a local repair man and he told me i was unlucky enough to get one of small percentage of faulty unit, fair enough since i hear as well as experienced it with another brand too, hence the original reason i wanted to try a Toshiba. After contacting the Amazon seller i arranged for a refund because i could not wait for a new unit to be sent and just purchased another lap top at the local mall. The seller was very understanding too and arranged for the return with little trouble.
Even though i had that experience, the Toshiba Satellite is still a great product, value for money and i would consider purchasing the latest generation next time around.
