I am a Yoga teacher, and I recommend this book for home practice. The point of Yoga is to turn inward, and really feel what your body is doing, and what your body needs. In classes, we tend to get competitive, which really hinders our practice. This book is a great way to learn poses to do at home, and without having someone there yapping at you the entire time, you tend to really FEEL the poses. I think classes are important to learn postures and how the corrected posture feels, but I encourage people to have a home practice as well. This book is wonderful.... big pictures makes it easy to use while practicing, and a few different series of Asana's in the back help guide you through an at home class. The basic meditation helps people start to understand how to quiet the mind, and the Chakra info is wonderful! Namaste!

This is my one of my favorite yoga books... it explains about lines of energy, chakras, the different types of yoga and Hatha Yoga, and of course, is full of some basic poses. It also includes some sequences for different occasions, included the classic Sun Salute. The nice thing about this book is that it also has clearly explained breathing exersizes, and what the do. It also has a nice intro to meditation, and includes severla different meditatoin techniques to introduce you to this idea. Of course, if you don't take classes, you SHOULD start taking them, and even if you do, this book will help you with your own at home rutine. Overall, a good little book.

TY is a super book for anyone interested in the many facets of yoga. Tara Fraser does a good job of including information on history, texts, chakras, diet, asanas and more, without becoming long-winded. She efficiently draws out the foundational material and sculpts a great info-guide to yoga. The asana depictions are clear and easy to follow, and she gives modifications for beginners/experts. Tara also includes some good partner-poses as well. It's a large book but lays flat for easy reference while practicing. I've used this book more than any of the several others I own. While TY is not written for a guru, it's a great book for beginners and intermediates.

Great book for us yoga people who do not do it every day. Great photos and step by step instructions. One thing about yoga, it is timeless so even though this book is a few years old, the info is still relevant! Plus it is so reasonably priced.

Love this book. First saw it at a spa I visited. I like the layout and pictures which show you the correct forms. The part I like the best are the "sequence of asanas" at the back with suggested asanas for morning, evening, gentle and strong sequence. Well done.

The postures were much too difficult for a beginner. I have now taken several yoga classes at a center near my home. Which I enjoy very much, and have learned the postures "safely". Yoga requires correct breathing, positioning, etc. which was not, or could not be demonstrated. I needed a "live" instructor. Some people may do very well with the written text. I need human interaction! I gave it 3 stars because the information on diet and fasting was interesting.

Bought this book for a health/phys ed class. Helpful because it gives a bit of history and a lot of information on the different types of yoga. Many pictures to help explain things and the pronunciation of many names for things. Helpful, colorful, and interesting.

This small book is worth its weight in gold for those who are interested in learning and understanding the practice of yoga. As a certified yoga instructor and an Educational Psychologist (PhD), I use this book exclusively with my clients who are new to the practice. The book is well written, informative, and includes many useful photographs to guide the beginning student toward a productive home practice. One of the most useful aspects of the book is the sequencing of poses for students that may lack the knowledge to create a series of movements at home. In addition, the author illustrates many basic yoga poses in detail, providing proper alignment and positioning for various levels of ability. I recommend this book highly.
