This set is sturdy enough for all of my kitchen duties, which may actually be more demanding than most because I cook my meals from scratch every day using fresh vegetables and other ingredients. This does place a demand on utensils.
What I especially like about bamboo (and wood) is because I use stainless steel cookware the softer bamboo is easier on my kitchenware when compared to metal utensils. I do not use Teflon, so bamboo is a natural fit to my cooking habits.
Another plus for this bamboo set is compared to the wooden utensils that they are replacing, these are lighter, thinner and stronger.
Bamboo utensils, like its wood counterparts, do require some preliminary preparation before you start using them for food preparation. Start by by wiping them down with dish detergent and warm water. Do not submerge them or place them in a dish washer. Once they have been cleaned and dried wipe them down with an oil. Some suggest mineral oil, but I prefer olive oil. Use a liberal amount, wiping off excess, then let the utensil sit until it has absorbed the remaining thin film of oil.
Occasionally sanitize the utensils. Common recommendations include using a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water or even diluted bleach. I prefer using a solution of an antibacterial dish soap like Dawn Antibacterial Dishwashing Liquid in a solution of hot water.Read more ›
I have been cheated by the name of totally bamboo, the brand I liked and trusted. Unless the brand is committing suicide, these
utensils are fake. In the future, I will be more careful.
What I received was some generic brand and the utensils are very thin and the handles aren't straight or even. Some of the utensils are shiny with some sort of varnish, others are not. They are severely splintering and the spoon or spatula parts of the utensils aren't evenly shaped. THEY LOOK LIKE THEY WERE CARVED BY A SIX-YEAR-OLD WITH A DULL POCKET KNIFE.
I was not happy with my purchase, but the seller I had purchased from (Mr. Baird's Books) was very courteous, communicated with me to resolve the issue, and even took the time to explain how the mistake in the listing was made, and thanked me for letting him know. As a result of this excellent customer service, I would do business with him again, and recommend his store to others.
However, if you are looking to purchase the brand Totally Bamboo, I would perhaps message the seller you are looking to buy from before purchasing, to clarify the brand of the item first.
I've used them to cook egg, meat, soups, stir fry's and use them on a daily basis for cooking in my kitchen.
They do not retain flavor which is really nice.
They have not warped at all and are not misshapen.
I did manage to burn on the very first time using it by leaving it next to my burner on the stove by accident, it still works just fine.
I would recommend these to anyone needing strong, heat resistant and pretty strong utensils to cook everyday with.

These splintered badly after using and washing just a few times. They went to a thrift store and were replaced with high quality solid wooden spoons made by a local artist.Published 16 days ago by RescuePupMom
