This double-section bamboo box attractively stores different types of sea salt, spices, or what-have-you, on the kitchen counter or right on the table. You can even use it for holding jewelry on a dresser. The lid and sections pivot around a central stem a full 360 degrees for easy access. Along with natural variations in color, an oven-heating process caramelizes the natural sugars in the bamboo and produces the warm honey tone of the box. And, because it's harder than wood, bamboo won't absorb water, crack, or peel, and can be sanded if need be. When necessary, simply wash the box lightly with warm, soapy water, and wipe now and then with mineral oil. --Ann Bieri

I don't think it's really as big some say but is a good size and shape to open one handed pretty easily. Quality is great, it's solid, closed nice a snug as it should. It looks good too. It's got more than enough space in each section for what I have, kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Obviously I don't grind a lot of pepper at a time so there's more than enough room.
A note about the claims that it's loose and doesn't close snugly. I discovered by accident, that it appears the lid is attached to the screw/rod or whatever it is that the 2 sections and lid pivot on. If you open it counterclockwise you are unscrewing it thus is gets looser. If you continue to spin it counter clockwise, or try to close it by spinning it all the way around, it'll be loose, very loose. If you try to open it clockwise, it should feel very tight, as if it's getting tighter....it is an may not open.
Open it counter clockwise and close it back clockwise and it makes it easy to open the top and the 2 sections, but snugs back up perfectly. Hopefully that is by design and cures some of the loose salt box issues.
I'm very happy with it.
The box arrived today, and I have to admit to a slight degree of disappointment in Amazon's packing and QC, because it was not wrapped well -- resulting in a gouge in the lower tier of the salt box. It is hardly worth devoting the time to initiate a return, re-pack, and ship it for such a small flaw, but it is a little irksome nonetheless.
That said, this is a space for product review, not kvetching about other stuff, so let's focus on the salt box itself!
It is attractive, with nice grain, and reasonably well thought-out.
I love its versatility and ability to swing different levels open in different directions.
My initial impression is that the box would certainly benefit from a more heavily-weighted base to enhance its stability when open. (If you swing both upper level simultaneously on one side, you might wind up tipping it over; if you exercise some care when accessing the lower compartment -- or swing the two upper chambers out in different directions to offset one another -- it should be fine, though.)
The magnets are a nice touch, but they aren't particularly strong or grippy.
Rotating motion and tolerances between levels are a little sloppy / imprecise, and the grain of the bamboo doesn't always match up as well as it probably should across the three tiers of the box.
In short, this doesn't exude the attention-to-detail that a handmade item labored over by a skilled artisan would, but rather the serviceable-but-somewhat-indifferent assembly of something sourced from an overseas factory with minor yet noticeable quality control issues.
Despite that, it remains an attractive item and a decent value, IMHO.
I will update the review at a later date with usage impressions after I have had a chance to live with it for a while.

Not a fault of the product. Looks smaller than it really is. I just didn't read the dimensions and this thing is big.Published 6 hours ago by Rene Watkins
Three tier is kind of tricky. When opening one tier the others open too.Published 9 days ago by Aaron Araki
Good quality. Each compartment "locks" well. Great to leave out on the counter for a quick pinch of salt or seasoning while cooking. Great smooth bamboo material. Read morePublished 14 days ago by Lvangen Cunking
