Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5 - This is much more than an alphabet book for beginning readers. It is a picture book with large, richly colored, realistic oil paintings, and many facts about football, including some history, rules, well-known players, and famous moments. Each pair of upper- and lower-case letters is represented by one or more terms or people ("N," for instance, is for Notre Dame, the NFL, and Nicknames) and a four-line rhyming verse. "No college team has ever had/as much success and fame/as football's famous fighting N - /noble Notre Dame." Although the text is a bit dense at times, this is an informative look at the game for independent readers. - Kate Kohlbeck, Randall School, Waukesha, WI

These series of books I think do such a good job of encompassing many ages. It has the simple alphabet for the younger reader, however; it also has factual information for the much older child in which he learns the actual history of the sport as well as information about the sport. The pictures are always well done in this series. This can be enjoyed by many ages from 1st graders to 5th graders.

As a fan of football I wanted to get this for my kids to read and learn about the game. It has a bunch of great references to facts about football players and history and has been a go to for bed time. I also like how the artwork is drawings not photos. The drawings tend to be action based and I find this helps the kids to understand that there is something going on and this brings out their imagination, did they score a touchdown? was the kick good?

This book series is wonderful. The poems are great and the detailed information about each sports' rules, history, highlights are interesting for kids and adults. Helps put each sport in context as the child is learning to play.

A great addition to my other alphabet books, especially those by this author. My students love the detailed illustrations. They feel like they're reading the book with great confidence.

This is a great book for kids of all ages and reading abilities. The words for each alaphabet are great for my 2 & 4 yr old, and myself and my husband love to read the more in-depth explaination to the side. This book would be a really good present for a family with multiple age children. I highly recommend it and the others in the series.

Little lengthy for kindergarten attention span but had useful information when used a few pages at a time. If you want a full preview, there is a video of it being read on You Tube.
