This thing isn't even strong enough to run its own emulators?
The PPSSPP app run so slow and everything glitches.
The Retro gba emulators pretty much work.
Retroarch is the junk app and doesn't work at all.

I dislike that this is made with Android 7.0. For $200 you should be getting the best processors in a handheld device. There's not many games but I know how to download them so that wasn't an issue.

I'm returning this as soon as I can because this is just not for me.

First and foremost, this merchant was extremely responsive, replying to my messages the same night I wrote them. That is worth its weight in gold, I find, when dealing with any kind of embedded system and when dealing with import goods.

Second, the product itself is solid, thus far in my own testing. The software environment is a little odd to get used to. For example there are three different flavors of SNES Emulators out of the box, and they all have different input configurations, the most obvious choice also consequently being the worst (imagine A and X being reversed with B and Y while trying to play Super Nintendo games ...). They were all in English, though, in case you're looking this product up after seeing Linus Tech Tips' product review.

However, the handheld runs Android 7, has Play Store and all my important purchased apps from there available to download, has very responsive controls, and has a surprisingly great LCD panel (you expect moving to a screen with less than half the resolution and easily 1/2" less diagonal size to be awful; it really isn't).

Most of all, Since Valve released their Steam Link APK and since Moonlight (for nVidia Gamestreaming) is a several-years-mature app, I've been having a blast playing games (with 1440p resolution on the host machine) from my PC all day today, when at home. Next step is experimenting with VPN'ing so that I can do the GRID-gaming that nVidia hosts, instead with my own machine at home, but that probably won't be as pleasant.

In short, the 2nd-gen refresh of the GPD XD+ overcomes the most glaring issues with the original product, the ecosystem is there, this hardware is formidable and more than enough for playing PUBG mobile (you *do* have to get creative with input schemes at times but even the vehicle-control with thumbstick totally worked!). Note that I bought this product and wasn't given any review hardware or anything. I wanted to get the GPD Win but I'm too cheap and I knew I just wanted to stream my heavier games from a desktop anyways.

In summary, EXCELLENT for Steam In-Home Streaming (AAAAND the new Steam Link app) or for nVidia GameSteam over Moonlight APK. Also good for most Emulators up to the fifth/sixth gen consoles. Migrating to a MediaTek SOC and doubling the ram/storage yields a snappy system with all-day battery life (I unplugged this at around 8am today and the battery was still at about 14% when I plugged it in after 8pm, using it heavily but sporadically throughout the day. 6000MaH is roughly 2x the battery capacity of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, for context).

Only real complaints would be (a ) "suuuuper clicky shoulder buttons with non-analog "triggers" and "no camera and no Google Assistant support" which I can totally live with, and (b ) "It's not a GPD Win" which you can tell by it being 2/3 as expensive (as 1st Gen Win), or 1/4 as expensive (as 2nd Gen Win).

Edit: In the few weeks I've owned this thing, I've fallen in love with it. I now understand the keymapper button which allows you to bind touch controls to the physical buttons, thus making me far more formiddable in PUBG mobile. I'm loving the ability to pause any singleplayer title by closing the lid and resuming later, which means this device has been permanently *with* me for every long shopping outing, every line I've waited through, every slow phone call, and it's even helped me out of a jam or two at work.

Note: as device has no camera, many app's will not want to download from play-store but if you stuff the APK's in dropbox or other storage you can totally sideload them without issue into the GPD XD+ and this has been helpful for grabbing a few productivity apps (like Google Authenticator).

I feel like I really consolidate a lot of my efforts with this device. It has no business playing PC games from my home desktop, over-the-internet, as well as it does.

Where to begin? Well. This thing checks off a few bucket list items. It's a decent android tablet for playing android games and it's also quite capable of playing emulated games. It can play with much better stability / graphics capabilities than a raspberry pi 3b+. It's no comparison. That said. it's still not quite powerful enough to play gamecube / dreamcast with real consistency. A few games can play decently (if you think 15fps is decent... it feels reactive but is slow)

That aside. this thing is a BEAST for psp / ps1 / game boy advanced / nintendo ds (NOT 3ds)... as well as all the older consoles (NES SNES, gameboy, sega genesis etc)

PSP is the most impressive because those games have nice graphics and many if not most play at 45fps+

I have not played N64 on it though I imagine it would run them quite well. (i dislike the graphics on that generation console)

If you get this. be sure to google black-seraph and install his clean rom version of firmware to get rid of chinese bloat and enjoy a much smoother play experience overall. Recommended that you get a 256GB+ sd card for storage. I've just about filled my 256GB one up. It would be easy to fill up a 400GB card if you went heavy on PS1 games.

Worst purchase ever! Complete paper weight!

Worse device just use your cell and get one of those control attachments if you really need to feel any joystick nostalgia. The thing is basically a paper weight. It works for about a day and the the antenna or whatever software it useses to download anything dies. The pre installed games are for when games first came out ever. The grfx are horrible, the setting up and the emulator etc are a joke! It's a real waist of cash. To top it off you can play more than half the games that you may currently be playing on your low budget phone as the software for this version of Android is almost 10 yrs old. And worse is the tactical buttons only work for the hud and maybe 10% of what you do in any given game prei stall or not. It is one of the worst products I've ever experienced in less than 24hr of excruciating web searching on how to get this thing to work properly. Basically your paying 300$ for about 15 30yr old games that are the last games you would ever play. Total waist of cash just by a phone or switch or console. This is the worst.

Not for the faint of heart. Combine Android OS with finicky emulation and it is for hobbyists only. With that being said it turned out to be a pretty good product. Ended up going with third party emulators, although the stock ones work OK. Like others have said, the sticky button issue seems to go away with time.

I would recommend going with the ARC Browser launcher. Seemed the cleanest and most intuitive to me. Not sure why the Happy Chick app has gotten so much negative response (yes I know it is shady). It works decent for what it is, although eventually you will want to graduate to your own emulator and ROMs.

The battery life is pretty killer. I can usually play it for a good part of the day and still have enough life in it for another solid round of gaming the next day.

The "clicky" R2 and L2 buttons don't bother me. The DPAD is a bit "mushy" as others have said, but not a total deal breaker. I've heard people using Wii controller parts in its place to remedy the issue. Might try that some day, but not worth cracking it open at this point.

My lid is starting to squeak now, as others have mentioned. But for the price of the product, I'm not going to ding them on that one.

I actually really like the GPD XD Plus. It is exactly what I expected and a little more. It is basically a Android device that runs as a games emulator. I am new to the emulation world, and am using this rather than modding my Nintendo 2DS XL or Switch. I also like the various emulators that are available with the device as well as all the ones that can be found online. That being said many games for other systems work great, other require tweaking to play, some just don't play well (aka Gamecube games) at least as far as I have found so far. I love using this for all the movies I have from ripped DVD of mine to Flixster and Google Movies (I have over a hundred) and with a HDMI Mini -HDMI cable I can take a large library with me on the road to play on any TV/Monitor available to me. I impressed enough by this device that I am seriously considering looking at the GPD Win down the road.

as a generic android tablet it be fine, over priced but fine.

for most people who got this for gaming... well it is a great device ONCE you flash it, i have a custom ROM installed and now i find the gp xd plus a lot more usable. if you are not a tinkerer or expect a plug and play experience then I'd say stay away from this as even with standard emulators found i needed to setup different profiles for individual games. even following YouTube tutorials and reading up prior to purchasing device still found meself needing a couple of weeks of trial and error before i was happy with how my device was setup. so if you don't like mucking around with android settings internally and in app and also don't already have ROMs look elsewhere but if you're willing to roll up sleeves and get down and dirty it is very satisfying.
battery life is awesome and now i look forward to places where i have long wait times as i can bust this bad boy out and just while away the time.
