I started with Real Ugly and Get Bent. Both depict the REAL UGLY side of rock n' roll. Sex, drugs and rock n' roll (holds up devil's horns symbol on my right hand). It's not the glamorized version depicted in other rocker-type books. It was raw, painful and realistic. The fairytale life of a rocker that I had imagined was quickly bashed away and the reality replaced it. I would say this series is more of a thriller/mystery romance. Each book leaves you hanging and wanting the next book NOW!
Tough Luck has twists and turn filled suspense. Just when life couldn't get any more tragic for them another dip happens. Ronnie McGuire, drummer for Indecency, is the subject of this book and his life is filled with ghosts. Lola Saints is the drummer for Ice and Glass. She has aspirations to be a rock god like her idols from Indecency. There is a price for fame but will it be too steep for her to pay at the cost of what is of real value to her...the love.
If I was a smoker, I would have lifted my lighter several times during this story. The lyrics of their music provided a poetic road map to the pain tattooed on their souls. The storyline is the sour patch version of sweet tart romance novels I am used to reading. It makes you pucker up but eventually you get used to it and relax. This is what makes these stories unique. They are not predictable. I am not a worldly person and to be thrust into this world of the seedier side of the music business is uncomfortable, but in a strange way, very believable. These are not people who live in houses with white picket fences with 2.5 kids and a dog. These are people who live on the jagged edge. Raw. Real. Passionate. The passion for their music is as strong as any bond. The fact they are living their dreams doesn't keep them from wanting it all, to be loved by someone unconditionally, selfishly, and eternally.
"Love is selfish. Period. End of Sentence."
The next book in the series is Bad Day which is to be released December 1, 2013. The cliffhangers of these books would have Thelma and Louise taking pause. I can't wait for the conclusion of this series and to get my happily ever after that I hope these characters deserve after lives filled with so much pain.
I gave this book 5 Stars.
This is book 3 in the Hard Rock Roots Series.
Yes you have to read the first two to understand this one.
This is the story of Ronnie and Lola. This is not a feel good love story, this is not the story you have been looking for all your life to make you feel better. This is real, raw and sometimes very disturbing. But it is a great story.
Ronnie is the drummer for Indecency. He lost his true love years ago and has never been the same since, he sleeps with everything that walks and probably more, he does drugs and drinks, and is unhappy with his life, he cares about nothing but playing for his band.
But there is something about Lola when he meets her that sparks a little bit of life in him and he is curious and wants to know more.
Lola is a wicked Bitch and is the drummer for Ice and Glass, Ronnie is her target she has been assigned to follow him and destroy him. That is all I can give you without ruining the story for you.
What can I say about this book, first it was not my favorite of the three, but it was still good, and it still deserved 5 stars, It is def not Turner and Naomi BUT they are in this book quite a bit and they still have more books coming!!! :)
I loved Ronnie yeah he is screwed up in the head, and he does things that he shouldn't to make life bearable for him. He sleeps with anything that will have him, and he doesn't even know if he is clean. He does drugs, he shoots up and smokes any chance he can get, and he is a drinker .. There is always something in his system, but I found him trying in this book to be better and to change for his kids and for Lola he never said it was for them, but you could see his heart and what he was struggling with. This is not a sappy love story that will leave you swooning. But it is real and you get to see how he would struggle if he really did have this addiction.
Now the part I hated was Lola I DID NOT like her at first, and I give kudos to the writer because that is the way it is suppose to be, and I hated her. (Lola not C.M.) haha. She was and is a bitch! She is a druggy and a drunk and she doesn't even try to quit. It is just who she is, but she does have feelings for Ronnie and it does make her feel guilty for what she is doing, and in all fairness she does try and help him. That was her only saving grace in my eyes, she is raw, and mean, and not a nice person! But who else could handle Ronnie? Probably not too many!!!
You will get some long awaited questions answered in this book that you didn't have in book one or two, BUT you will not get all of them, and there will be more! AND there is a MAJOR cliff hanger!! I mean what else did you expect?? This series is far from over!!
Thank you C.M. for not disappointing and giving it to us once again!! I have a major book hangover after all that reading. Her style is deep, and raw and she writes what she feels and sometimes that comes out as abrasive, rough and crude (THIS IS A COMPLIMENT!) She has a writing style that I have never seen before and it gets you caught up in the story, and there is a thin line between love and hate! You are either going to love this or you are going to hate it! And that is why I love her she is amazing !! And I can't wait to read what she has up her sleeve next!!! Thank you for such an amazing story. So in conclusion, if your looking for something different and not the same old story! Then pick up this series~!
Holy Hell C.M. Stunich!! You have done it to me again! You suck me into this dark world of rock ‘n’ roll and I get swept away in the suspense and sizzling scenes and then you leave me hanging! I love it, but dayum girl, you have me hooked!! :D
Tough Luck continues on after Get Bent, but this time there are two new main characters; Lola and Ronnie. Ronnie is Turner’s best friend in the band and I was keen to see more of him since he was in the previous book a bit. He really is a lost soul who has been dealt a bad hand, and until now has had only his music and friends. He is very smart and knows a lot about the tour and the other bands, but tends to spend too much time doing drugs, drinking and having sex. When things turn to s***, it was interesting to see the way he handles things and how he changed for the better.
Lola… The girl from Australia (fist pump) is a tiny girl with big secrets. She is the drummer for Ice and Glass, another band that is touring with the crew. I liked getting to know her and seeing her internal struggles between success and what is right. She is in a difficult situation and is unsure on how to get out. The more time she spent with Ronnie, I could see that she was wavering because their connection was getting stronger and when they did get together, it was hard and fast!
I love how the overall storyline is continuing in each book. It is full of suspense and I even feel that I have to look over my shoulder. I love how we get to see both Ronnie and Lola perform on stage. Even their stage appearances don’t go as planned and I still love seeing Turner take control. I enjoy how this book is still closely tied to the original stories, so Naomi and Turner still play big parts in this book. After that ending however, I have to dive in the next one straight away!
