I bought these molds on a whim. They were cute and I wanted to make some ice cream sandwiches. I bought two sets, but when I got them and read the instructions, I was a bit worried that I really didn't need both of them.

My wife and I split up the work. I made ice cream a couple days in advance. Then she made a sheet of cookie. While the cookie sheet was cooling, I used the molds to cut out the cookie shapes (2 per sandwich) and imprint the little animal faces. Once the cookies were cool and the we had softened up the ice cream in the refrigerator, she placed a cookie at the bottom of each of the assembled molds (suddenly we were happy to have extras). I filled them with ice cream, placed a second cookie on top and then used the top to gently squeeze each sandwich until the ice cream filled out to the edges of the mold (the molds are translucent, so it's easy to see when you've squeezed enough). Then I popped the sandwich out the bottom and she wrapped them in cellophane. Repeat until done.

Now we have a freezer full of adorable little ice cream sandwiches that we can't wait to eat! I can't recommend these molds enough. I had been worried that our first attempt would be marred by mistakes and unseen difficulties, but we followed the instructions and they worked perfectly!

I do love these molds! I use them to mold hard boiled eggs for school lunches. They are fun and the kids enjoy eating something that is good for them.
They are a little on the pricey side for something that has only three pieces to it. However, it is something I will use often. I also used them to make ice cream sandwiches for the kid and those were also a big hit. I used root beer float ice cream and vanilla wafer cookies crunched up. Ummmm. Again a little work for only three sandwiches so you might want more than one set, but for an occasional treat, they are great. The designs show up better on the eggs then on the ice cream sandwiches but no one complained about that.

With the assistance of these cute contraptions making ice cream sandwiches becomes incredibly easy. You begin by baking your favorite soft and chewy cookie recipe. Next, you allow them to cool slightly before cutting out the cookies with whichever shape you decide to use. This kit comes with a heart, star, and a squircle. I'm not making that up. They actually refer to the odd shaped mold as a "squircle." There's also a kit that comes with animal shapes (a chicken, cow, and pig) if that's more your style. After cutting out your cookie shapes let them cool completely on a wire rack. Finally, assemble the cookies by placing one cookie in the mold, adding a scoop of ice cream, topping with an additional cookie, and firmly applying pressure with the cookie press. Voila! A cute ice cream sandwich is born. If you aren't going to eat the treats immediately you'll definitely want to place them in the freezer as they start to melt quickly.

I can definitely imagine using something like this for a child's slumber party, birthday party, or even as an interactive end to a grown-up dinner party. Just bake the cookie shapes ahead of time and set out the molds, ice cream, and bowls of sprinkles for your guests to use.

I use these primarily to make cute shaped onigiri and hard boiled eggs for my husband and my lunches. They're super easy to use and they come apart into 3 pieces making it very easy to clean and very easy to get your shaped food out. They are sturdy and the shapes are cute and pretty large. I have no complaints!

I bought these for our ever expanding collection of food shapers for Bento. They are easy to use with hardboiled eggs and turn out sooo cute! I hard boiled the eggs, cool them just enough to be able to shell them and pop the warm egg in the mold. Press down the plunger part and secure with several rubber bands for a tight fit. once completely cooled, they are adorable and so much more fun than "regular" hard boiled eggs. You can dye the eggs--the pig is cute in pink--with standard food colors. Be sure to use the biggest eggs you can find to fill up the nooks and crannies in the mold.

I received this today and I didn't hesitate to rip the package open, wash the items and use them as rice molds for my kids bento dinner. They were awesome! They are a little big if you are just going to make a rice ball with the mold but I layered the rice with meat so my 2 year old would eat her protein with out complaints. Worked like a charm! Now I can't wait to make ice cream sandwiches with them! I will update my review when I do make the ice cream treats!

My 8 and 10 year old children had a blast making these--they are easy to use and made a sandwich that is smaller than a store bought, which I prefer. This product comes with cookie making recipes but we used the Nestle Tollhouse recipe using gluten free ingredients and Earth Balance instead of butter. The gluten-free version worked just fine. The molds get clumps of cookie on them that you have to wipe off as you go on making more, but that's the nature of what you are working with, not a product defect. One set worked well enough and we assembly lined it. I noticed the little imprints you see in the picture of the dots, star, and "xo" did not show up in our dough recipe. (BTW, there are no gluten and dairy free ice cream sandwiches on the market that I have ever found so now my kids can enjoy this treat with others).
