My son had been pining for the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet all summer long. We couldn't walk through the toy department of a mass market retailer without stopping to closely examine the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet. These examinations lead to the inevitable request that we purchase said toy immediately, which was followed by tears and howls of protest at our unreasonable refusal to do so. He may have, in a moment of weakness, even said please.

Last evening he received the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet as a birthday gift. There being no gift receipt, I cannot identify the source of the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet. As soon as he opened it, he treated us all to a deafening blast from its laser. He fired his first volley of darts, taking out a family picture, a half empty glass (or was it half full?), and a toddler who never knew what hit him. The Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet really shoots the darts hard and fast. It seemed a lifetime of adventure and joy awaited. I hoped that perhaps he'd be able to use the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet to reduce our back yard squirrel population.

Alas, it was not to be so.

Less than three minutes after extracting the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet from its packaging, the boy snapped the head off of a dart in his attempt to reload. Thinking it was my son's ham-fisted efforts that caused the dart to break, I, with surgical precision and a deft touch, attempted to load a dart, only to have identical results. My father, an engineer who spent his career designing complex weapons systems, examined the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet, and used his experience and professional qualifications to snap a third dart.

Zut alors!

My 4 year ols son adores Buzz Light Year and asked relentlessly for the jet pack and ultra blaster to complete his buzz attire. Much to our dismay the $30.00 and $50.00 toys, respectively, cannot withstand childs play. We are on our 2nd set for each toy and are geting ready to go return the ultrablaster yet again (this time for a refund!)Mind you all winthin 72 hours of initial purchase! The jet pack's wings cannot withstand repeated opening and closing (yet this is the only function the toy has) and the ultrablaster's doors and hinged dart launcher has broken the same way x2. Now we are attempting to reason with a 4 year old to give up his most prized possession (of this week anyway) and exchange for a completely different toy. I am not a person that usually spends time reviewing toys but these toys were such a disappointment that I felt compelled to warn other parents. Maybe Matel needs to look at manufacturing more in the U.S. instead of paying a Chinese worker $1.00 per week to manufacture toys with substandard quality. BUYER BEWARE.

A cool Buzz Lightyear blaster, but it takes some serious pull to reset the laser back into the case. Our four-year old isn't able to do it by himself and constantly asks for us to do it for him. After just a few times, the white doors that pop open to reveal the inside stopped lining up, as well.

i bought this for my son at Christmas. been looking for it for a longtime. he saw his cousin has one and always plays with it. but the one i got was made really poorly and the shooters kept shooting them self off and would not stick to the wrist gun barrel...

My grandson really loved this - he is 3 and we bought it to add to his Halloween costume since we were not really trick or treating outside our home area. He felt "official" and continues to play with it long after the holiday.

I read the other reviews and bought this anyway since my son loves Toy Story. The darts do break very easily and get lost even easier. We are down to one workable dart after 2 weeks, so he doesn't play with it any more. It was great for about one day, and he was super excited. Haven't found refills, so that's that, I guess.

Amazing toy. My 2 1/2 year old son loves playing with it all the time. Wish it came with extra darts though, it launces them very fast and hard so they get lost easily. Fun to shoot at the windows. It's a little big for my son so he doesn't put it on his arm but caught on fast on how to load the darts. They can only be loaded in one way and you have to push pretty hard. Laser is awesome.

We went to see Santa December 22, smugly knowing said elf had already dropped off the coveted buzz lightyear wings. Then we heard our child ask Santa for the gauntlet that went with aforesaid wings, and knew we were hosed out here in the boonies with no chance of finding it in a local store; nevermind the not-great reviews I'd already seen and therefore already mentally dismissed any thought of purchasing this toy. Thankfully, it arrived shortly after Christmas with a note from Santa. As I sort of expected, I couldn't get it to close properly, but we could load the five darts (there's an up side and a down side on them and if you don't get those positions right the dart will likely break) and he loved shooting them at the dishwasher door. The sounds are great, too. Then, a day or two after my engineering husband and I failed to get the whole thing to work right, our son pulled the back handle firmly and the entire thing retracted so much better than with my fumble-fingered attempts, and it closed up neatly, darts and all, and had the sort of finish I EXPECT from a Disney/Mattel toy. He plays with the wings more than this accessory piece, but he really seems to enjoy the wings more knowing he can have his action-packed arm to go with them. I gave this 4 stars for educational value because it really requires some thought and manual dexterity for little hands to work. Also, unlike some other nerf-type toys, he's not likely to shoot himself in the face while loading it. I'm relieved this worked out well for us, but I still recommend it with caution as it's easy to see how easily it would be for this to go wrong in construction thereby frustrating little people -- and their parents!
