How did you come up with the idea for this product?

Kids spends 8 hours a day in front of screens. Parents don’t want to give their children phones when they are young because of safety and security concerns. We intentionally built Toymail to be screen-free for health and safety. Kids can use it on their own, with multiple friends and family members, without the distraction of the smartphone screen.

What makes your product special?

Talkies are the only product on the market that allow kid to send messages back and forth with their family without using a screen. Our tech is made for physical toys that encourage open-ended, imaginative play. We’ve gotten feedback from working parents, divorced parents, parents on military travel, parents who are either in hospitals or have a child in a hospital, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. – they all say Toymail was made for them.

What has been the best part of your startup experience?

Nothing is better than watching kids smile as they use our product, and giving parents the opportunity to connect with their children while they’re at work. Nothing is more gratifying and humbling than knowing we are making a difference in the lives of so many families.

It took me a while to get it all setup, but it was well worth it. Gave it to my 2 1/2 year old niece as a Christmas gift. I live in CA. She's in TX. It's fun to know (via the internal accelerometer) when she's playing with the toy. I can send her a quick voice text. With her mom's help, she can use it to send voice messages to me or her distant grandparents, or other pre-approved family members (up to 10).

I got three of these for christmas presents for my nieces and nephew. They were a HUGE hit. The oldest is 8 and the youngest is 4. I was afraid that it would be too young for the 8 year old but she loved it. I would totally recommend this as a great gift for any kid.

When I heard the radio ad, I thought, wow, I need to check these out. I am SO GLAD I DID! I have three grandchildren living clear across the country. Mom and Dad are busy and don't have a lot of time to chat by phone...letting the kids talk, etc. I also have two other grandchildren in a nearby town. So, I took a chance and bought five of these little critters. What a wonderful idea! I can now chat with ALL of my grandchildren and not have to bother the Moms and Dads. The grandchildren seem to get a kick out of it, too. And, they can talk with their other grandparents and family. They are easy to use for all. I would highly recommend this product especially to those grandparents who want to keep in touch with their grandchildren firsthand.

I won't lie, I was a little skeptical about this at first. But we have a lot of extended family and my husband is a police officer so he works some crazy hours. I wanted some way for my son to keep in touch with everyone without having to rely on using my phone. My 4 year old LOVES Hank! He's always checking for new messages and loves that he can send his own messages and say what he wants. The set up was super easy and everyone who we use it with has said it was easy as well. If you're considering purchasing this it is 100% worth the money.

My daughter is 6 and this is by far her favorite gift from Santa this year. Surprisingly it has been extra fun for her mother and I as well. We have been sending songs, jokes and random silliness through her Piper (she named it after herself). Great toy.
